Hello Chaps

Recently, I purchased a Steinheil Macro-Quinar 100/2.8 M42. After receiving it, I did a brief inspection, and found the aperture is always stuck wide-open no matter I press the pin on the mount or push the level on the lens (related to pin). I uploaded a video to demonstrate the problem better. What I want to know is if it can be confirmed the lens is faulty? or I just didn't do it right...

Kind regards,
Peng

That could be caused by a number of things. Oil on the aperture blades, mechanical issue (something missing or stuck inside the mechanism that moves the blades), for example. Only way to know for sure is to open the lens, I´m afraid.

Given the aperture blades appear to be partly closed, likely oil on the blades. You might find that if you keep the pin pressed for long enough the blades will close down after a few minutes.

Thank you guys for the inputs. It seems there is definitely problem with this lens.

I think the best way is to send back to the seller...

Definitely a good idea, imho.
Only exception would be if you got the lens for a ridiculously low price: in this case, given the fact that the lens doesn't seem to be extremely common, it may be worth the risk and cost of having it professionaly cleaned.
