Super!!

If you ever find out these book at your library in your neighbourhood,
I highly recommend to read them. Unfortunately written in Japanese,
but photos in these books eloquently tell you something.

ISBN4-907745-01-x
ISBN4-907745-02-8

Publisher Kougei Sousaku 1999 Mar & Jul

These books are very good for Orio definitely. Very Happy

Ooops, the auther is Mr. Atsuo Morito (professional photographer)
These books are not commissioned by Zeiss, he loved simply Zeiss lenses.

Carlsson, can you do a test against the sun, please? Smile It will be appreciated Smile thanks.. tf

Of course, unfortunately there is no sun today, perhaps tomorrow, okay?

Wow, thanks Koji, these books look very interesting.
I'll keep my eyes open, but as Orio said, the chances to find them here are pretty low Crying or Very sad .

I hope so Rolling Eyes

Here is another sample, taken in the living room, in the afternoon at 5 pm, overcast.

f1.2, ISO 1000, no PP

I'm fascinated.

Ahhh now I know why this expensive Shocked Shocked superb sample!

you'll be even more, Carlsson .. !!

this lens is ABSOLUTELY stunning -- its character is outstanding -- my guess -- you may do PERFECT portraits with it -- indoor, without flash --

I have got Canon FD 85 f1.2 L which needs to be converted to EOS mount -- one day..
but I think it's not comparable to this Zeiss gem !!!--
I expect more CA and fringing and it can't be used on Contax camera of course!!!

A picture with Contax film camera with Planar 1.2/85 must be a TOTAL CONTAX NIRVANA!!!

tf

Rolling Eyes so true, I love this contax nirvana imagination.
Memo to me - watch out for a Contax camera.

FD 85 1.2, I would like to see this gem in action. I've heard only good things about it. Hope you can finish the conversion soon.

Carlsson, I am interested in seeing a 100% crop from the focused area of a picture taken at f/1.2
Just curious to see how sharp it is at wide open (I know that it's super sharp stopped down).
thanks!

Your wish is my command:

5D with EE-S focusing screen
all samples wide open, no post, no sharpening, no noise reduction:

Fantastic!
Hard to believe it's a f/1.2 wide open!

What a luck, the sun was here for 10 minutes, here we go:

P-Filter mounted, metal hood left on the desk (edit, P-Filter means protection filter)

f1.4!, ISO 100, 1/4000
sun is out of the frame, above the right corner, slight loss in contrast

into the sun, f11, ISO100, 1/8000

f8. ISO100, 1/8000

This is lens is a beast, pretty hard to force flare Wink

I am DYING !!! Smile PLEASE , CALL FIRST AIDER or HOSPITAL!!

The shots AGAINST THE sun ARE SOMETHING I was expecting !!!

Carlsson -- thanks!!!

So, the FAST lens EQUALS FLARE RESISTANCE GUARANTEED !! For EVER!

Trifox, I don't think so.
Usually the fast lenses have larger front glass than the slower lenses; in turn, larger front glass means more chances to pick flares and parassite lights.
My Helios-40s are beautiful large glasses but they pick flares like hell.
The merit of flare resistance should be attributed to the T* coating made by Zeiss. Wink

I'm sorry but there is no medication available for this. Get your daily dose of contax and take pictures. Wink

But I think Orio is right, these pictures would have been impossible to take with my Jupiter-9, such a beautyful lens, but it flares and looses contrast. The wider, the more flare you get - this is my observation.
One of the keys must be the T-coating.

No Klaus, just red T* alert. The green comes only from the orange trees. Wink

I just spent a couple of hours trying to find this thread again so I could look at the samples long removed from first viewing to decide if I was still fascinated with the idea of having this lens, and I report that I still think they are great.

Crap. I was hoping I was over it.

Carlsson, I don't suppose you have some more shots you might like to share from this one? I doubt I'll ever afford one at current collector prices, but I hope to stumble across a user some day. My T*85/1.4 ZA isn't up to my desires.
