does not work, Cosmin. Direct linking not allowed

@ Orio:

Paste Cosmin's link into the address field at the top of your browser and the link should open.

I also looked at the link referring to the European Canon sites on dpreview and the body used in the animation doesn't have a program knob like the 5D or the 7D mockup....

If this is the new FF by Canon, it's going to disappoint many people. Old processor (the 50D has the new one), only one MP more than the 50D... unless someone needs the full frame, the 50D looks like a more advanced camera.

Looks like a mock-up to me, and I wouldn't get hung up on megapixels anyway.

Laughing
On popular digital cameras forums, the most recurring comment about the introduction of the new breeds of FF cameras is "we are going to have a problem with lenses" "our current lenses will not be up to the task"

Well... that's a problem that we MFL users are not going to have! Very Happy Not yet, at least.

A good catch, also people were talking about 21.1MP it seems real.
I am a bit surprized.

I use cropping a lot because I often deal with moving subjects in non-controlled environments (i.e. I take snapshots) Wink
So for me a full frame camera that does a good quality 21MP means a huge step forward for my photography. I will definitely have to get a financement and buy that camera.

Another plus is that it will take advantage of my best lenses. I will finally be able to see where my Contax and Leica lenses can go. We are speaking of a 60.66% resolution increase compared to the 5D. Shocked

But more megapixels doesn't meen that the diffraction could increase (relatively to a same dimension sensor but with less pixels) ?

Regarding APS-C sensors I would have liked to see more concern about image noise than pixel numer. The 6Mpx Sony CCD sensor has a density of 1.6Mp/cms while the 12Mps CMOS sensor full frame sensor of the D3/D700 has 1.4 Mp/cmp density. Maybe developing a 6MPx CMOS in these days would have had results similar with D3/D300 sensor regarding the noise.
Even diffranction would have been a less concerning issue.
I just love how that D700/D3 behaves at ISO 6400-12800 Smile

Well, we will have to wait and see how the new camera performs.
For the moment, I don't think that at Canon they would release a camera that performs poorly just to show more MP.
I remember the same things being said about the 400D packing more megapixels than 300D and 350D onto the same space, and how people expected to perform less efficiently because of that, but this didn't turn out to be true and the 400D was a great performing camera.

Another thing to remember, Canon sensors now are gapless. This means that a part of the MP gain is obtained by using what were blank spaces on the 5D sensor. So the actual reduction of cell size is not as dramatic as it would appear to be at first sight.

How reliable is this site? They also list the Nikon D4 Shocked

Yes, they did put up the price of D4.

PostPosted: Sun Sep 07, 2008 4:39 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Oh No!

Look at that.
21 mp is probably near the ceiling
I don't expect we will see higher than 24.
At least not in 135 format

I hope your right about the difraction.
After studying the subject lately.
I have not been shooting beyond 5.6 much.
When comparing some frames taken with 40D
There was a noticeable difference between f5.6 and f8
Not terrible but, it creaps into your mind and effects choice of aperture

The 7D has a better ring then 5D mkII
I like it Smile

But not for $4.5k Mad

This one is floating around also, So I think it is really a wait and see before any of us make a lot of plans.

Really?
I used to have the 400D which is the same MP and size as the 40D, but I never noticed pictures to get worse at f/8 unless it was the lens' fault.

About the prices: that shop page was made in June if I remember correctly and contains what look to me as just wild guesses.

PostPosted: Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:24 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I was surprised also
It is very subtle but you know how it can be
Once in the mind it stays

I'll post a pair of crops up later
the lens was ML 3.5/21 and it was a tripod test so same focus on same subject

Just saw this postes by somebody on a romanian photography forum

Is that diffraction which "kills" the 40D ?
