I use cropping a lot because I often deal with moving subjects in non-controlled environments (i.e. I take snapshots)
So for me a full frame camera that does a good quality 21MP means a huge step forward for my photography. I will definitely have to get a financement and buy that camera.
Another plus is that it will take advantage of my best lenses. I will finally be able to see where my Contax and Leica lenses can go. We are speaking of a 60.66% resolution increase compared to the 5D. _________________ Orio, Administrator

Regarding APS-C sensors I would have liked to see more concern about image noise than pixel numer. The 6Mpx Sony CCD sensor has a density of 1.6Mp/cms while the 12Mps CMOS sensor full frame sensor of the D3/D700 has 1.4 Mp/cmp density. Maybe developing a 6MPx CMOS in these days would have had results similar with D3/D300 sensor regarding the noise.
Even diffranction would have been a less concerning issue.
I just love how that D700/D3 behaves at ISO 6400-12800 _________________ Canonet QL17 III

Well, we will have to wait and see how the new camera performs.
For the moment, I don't think that at Canon they would release a camera that performs poorly just to show more MP.
I remember the same things being said about the 400D packing more megapixels than 300D and 350D onto the same space, and how people expected to perform less efficiently because of that, but this didn't turn out to be true and the 400D was a great performing camera.
Another thing to remember, Canon sensors now are gapless. This means that a part of the MP gain is obtained by using what were blank spaces on the 5D sensor. So the actual reduction of cell size is not as dramatic as it would appear to be at first sight. _________________ Orio, Administrator

I don't expect we will see higher than 24.

I hope your right about the difraction.
After studying the subject lately.
I have not been shooting beyond 5.6 much.
When comparing some frames taken with 40D
There was a noticeable difference between f5.6 and f8
Not terrible but, it creaps into your mind and effects choice of aperture
The 7D has a better ring then 5D mkII
I like it
But not for $4.5k |

Really?
I used to have the 400D which is the same MP and size as the 40D, but I never noticed pictures to get worse at f/8 unless it was the lens' fault.
About the prices: that shop page was made in June if I remember correctly and contains what look to me as just wild guesses. _________________ Orio, Administrator
