|

I am contemplating a vacation of about 10 days in the Spring or Summer of 2010.
It seems that it would be great fun to have members of the forum come up here to the Pacific Northwest, and specifically to the Olympic Peninsula area to shoot together.
Access is easy, and flights to Seattle are pretty straightforward, since it is a major hub. From Seattle to the Olympic peninsula is very easy to accomplish.
Would anyone have interest in something like this?

Living in the area, of course I am in. This is a great Idea and maybe can expand to other spots in the future. The PNW in general and the Olympic Peninsula specifically are absolute photographic gems. Easy place to bring the wife as well if needed. Nice idea Larry.

I would love to but, first thing, why 2010? I don't even know if I'll be alive by then!
Secondly, it will depend from the cost. Of course I would not be able to make such vacation without Monica, she would kill me if I did not take her with me. But she's not able to sustain it financially, so I would have to pay for two: two plane tickets, two hotels etc. That would not be easy.

| Cost is a good reason to plan it out 2 years. I would be happy to offer my house as refuge to however would need it. Michelle and I live 1.5 hours north of Larry near the San Juan Islands. Another gem of the NW. We do not have a huge house but, could play host to a few people comfortably. It is a nice idea and one that could be economical with some planning. A meeting in Europe would also be great. |

The cost factor is one reason I wanted to wait until 2010. And, it isn't really that far in the future. Time passes quickly (and we all get older).
I have an "extra" home that is very large, which could be shared by quite a few guests as a "base of operations", so that would cut costs considerably.
In the summer months, and I'm sure Andy would agree, we have long periods of superb weather, and camping out is another wonderful way to pass the evenings AND be ready for morning and evening light.
Again, this is just a "thought" in my head. As I said before, we did this with another photo group (about a dozen people), and it was absolutely a GREAT get-together. The Olympic peninsula tends to put you in "low gear" and has a calming effect with its pristine forests, beaches, and mountains. One thing that the previous group agreed upon was that the photo-vacation was so calming and "non-hurried". _________________

I surely hope you are successful Attila! I don't know if they would go back into the records that far or not. It would be good to shoot with you, should something like this take place. _________________

The cost could be cut substantially, because this would not be a "stay in the high-priced hotel room" type of vacation. If, however, a hotel room was wanted to clean up, the hotels in Forks, Washington are REALLY cheap and VERY clean.
I could pick up anyone coming from overseas, right at the airport, and thus save the cost and headache of trying to find your way around. It is about one hour drive for me to the airport.
The Olympic peninsula is COMPACT. The variety is all narrowed down into a peninsula about 50 miles across and 50 miles north to south, with a good highway all the way around the periphery. The Olympic National Park is in the center of the peninsula.
This type of vacation would NOT entail the rush of driving long distances, always trying to "beat the clock" to the next destination. Rather it would be laid back and non-hurried. As I indicated before, there is a feeling of peace and tranquility to the area. _________________

That's a great idea! It definitely is.
And in 2010 my kids are a little older which means some more freedom.
But I am not sure if I will be able to afford to travel to the States again in 2010. It seems that I will be in Washington State (in Lacey, Thurston County) in 2009 with a group of my students.
Another idea would be to meet in Switzerland which would be quite central for us Europeans and also offer some nice locations. I guess flights to a Swiss city (or to a Southern German city) also would be easily available for our "trans-atlantic" members. _________________ There are two kinds of people in the world: those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and those who don’t.

Gosh yes! I sure wouldn't turn Switzerland down either! Heck there are lots of possibilities.
Carsten, I live 45 minutes northeast of Lacey, so I hope that we will have a chance to take a run over to the rain forest and the wilderness beaches. _________________

I would love to!!!
And I think it will be possible for me to get one afternoon or even a complete weekend off.
We have a school partnership with North Thurston High School, based on the GAPP (German American Partnership Program).
Now, let's hope that we can go on this exchange... _________________ There are two kinds of people in the world: those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and those who don’t.

I'm in also... And being I'm also close, about 45min drive, to Laurence this should work for me. And Patrick is just a few hours south from me...
I will have to clear it with my other half, but we also will have a spare bed and couch available. So I could house a couple people.
Attila, as the time gets closer, please do keep us posted with your Visa possibilities. _________________ Seymore...
