Looks really good. As I understand it, the optics didn't change with the mount on this?

The way I see it, it doesn't matter if the optical formula changed with the mount or not. I also own the M42 version and it is an incredible lens. At least as good as this one.

M42 & PK versions share optical formula, a true heliar.

If the formulas were different surely the differences would produce different results under some conditions.

Thanks Guy's,today I will shoot Canon FD 100mm f4 WO for comparison...

I also own the Canon FD 100mm f/4, as well as the SMC Pentax 100 macro. One day a couple years ago, we had a bunch of flowers in bloom, so I dragged out most of my macro lenses to take pictures of them, including the Canon and Pentax. Honestly, I couldn't tell the difference between the two. I have examples, but on another computer. When I get to it, I'll post some.

Okay I'm finally at the other computer where the images are stored. Here are several pairs of shots I took with both lenses one afternoon. As you can see, both lenses did a great job. The camera was my NEX 7, set to ISO 100. I used a tripod as well.

SMC Tak 100:

Canon FD 100:

See what I mean? It's a toss-up. They're both outstanding macro lenses.' I have more comparisons, but I think this is sufficient.

Had one, sold it. Should have kept it - as above posts illustrate very well.

Thanks jamaeolus. Fortunately the wide open glow in the background on that blue iris actually helped a little bit.

Yeah, I would say the SMC Tak is lighter than the Canon FD model. My SMC Tak 100 came with a metal hood as well, while my Canon didn't.
