I have Color Ultron 85/2,8 and MC Apotelezenitar 135/2,8

Can afford SMC K 135/2,5 (MM version) OR 85/1,8

Any suggestion?

Thank you.

85/1.8 It offers a full stop advantage over the 85 you already have. I would snap it up right away if it had a similar price level the 135/2.5 SMC Pentax lenses usually go for.

Thank you D1NO

The 85 goes for 250 bucks, and the 135 for 150.

None cheap, high cost

Note the K-mount SMC Pentax 1:1.8 / 85 6/6 formula is NOT the same as the M42 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 1:1.8 / 85 which has 5/4 formula!

I think you are mistaken. If you are looking at Pentaxforums. They have lumped in the Auto-Takumar 85mm 1.8 with the S-M-C Takumar 85mm 1.8. The Auto-Takumar is 5/4 and the S-M-C has a 6/6 design like the SMC Pentax version.

$250 is still very cheap though. I would expect to pay at least 350 Euro's for one.

I took two pics with the mamiya sx/Color Ultron 85/2,8

first, F/5,6. Second, wide open

Wide open it's too soft. At F/5,6 is better

Most of the softness is due to the narrow DOF. The in focus bits are sharp but lack a bit of (micro)contrast. Which is generallty a good thing for a portrait lens.

As you already have a 135mm and an 85mm lens, which focal length do you find yourself using most often?
You could choose that one.
Although I am not sure that you will gain much by choosing the 135mm, barely 1/3 of a stop.
To me, the 1.8/85 adds more to your shooting options and is more than a stop faster than the one you have.
I would choose the 1.8/85 even though it is more expensive.
As far as value for money goes, I am unsure what the market prices are for these lenses.
But if you seldom use a lens, then it is poor value no matter the price.
Tom

I don't know if you'd really use the Pentax K 135/2.5 if you already have the APO telezenitar, although it's a good lens, and the build quality is very nice.
The Pentax 85/1.8 is really good. I remember taking some comparison shots with it against the Sony FE 85/1.8, and it was very hard to tell the difference, even wide open.

Thank you.

I use those FL very rarely.

99% use my normal lens.

But love all the lenses. Thank You Dog

Thank you, Casper79

I used in film times the SMC 135/2,5. Very sharp with strong longitudinal CA

it is said that this lens in K version improved the LoCA

I still use it every now and then, and I like it a lot. Mechanically top notch and a joy to use.

Which Pentax 1:2.5 / 135 is this thread discussing? There is the SMC Pentax K-mount, 6/6 and the non-SMC Takumar Bayont 4/4. The "MM" designation in OP confuses me -- what is MM please? Thank you!

Here we are talking about the 6/6 version. It has two models, the first w/o "mm" after the FL in the front ring, The second model, with it.

I bought one of the unpopular Takumar ( Bayonet ) 135 / 2.5 ( 4-4 ) just a few days ago and I'm very impressed with it - if this is the poor option the better versions must be truly exceptional.

For a £10 lens, and half of that was postage, a perfect, unmarked lens, of this performance was undoubtedly a bargain. I shall certainly be looking for the 6 - 4 ......and wondering if the price difference matches the performance difference?

IT's very nice to read the good rendering of the takumar 4/4.

I didn't use it. But in almost all the especialized articles that lens is not so good as the smc K one.

Good oportunity to know and compare them

How's it compare to the 4/4 formula Tamron 03B we know and like? Smile

The Takumar Bayonet has no SMC, Pentax Forums database says "non-SMC". SMC lenses are well known for flare resistance.

It is a good lens, not particularly shining, but no big faults, beside some CA.

The takumar Bayonet has a terrible glow to it when shot wide open in bright sunlight.

I wonder if there were more versions of this lens, because the one I had (for a few days) did not show this trend at all, unless in less contrasting conditions it masked it well
