Pentax Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 1:3.5/135 (M42 Mount)
I bought this lens at a thrift store last year. When I took the rear lens cap off at the store, the rear baffle fell out of the back of the lens. I bought the lens anyway because the optics looked very good and it was really cheap. I don't see any obvious way to attach the rear baffle to the lens, no threads, no slots for a spanner wrench, etc. It drops in place perfectly into the back of the lens, but when the lens is tipped upside down, the baffle falls out again. Any idea on how it is supposed to stay in there? Adhesive? There is some damage on the baffle (on the right edge of the photo, along the thin slot) where it looks like the baffle was bent and an attempt was made to try and flatten it out. Thanks.
Matt

I guess that's an option. I wonder if the lens came from the factory with the baffle glued on? I was hoping for a mechanical connection of some sort.

Yes, and that's what I've been doing. I've only used this lens on a Nikon J1 (2.7x crop = 365mm) to take airplane photos from my back yard though. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the photos, so I am assuming the lack of the baffle isn't causing any problems. I haven't used this lens for anything else since the J1 disables focus assist when using legacy lenses; I just keep it at infinity focus.

Imho the rear baffle on this lens is an Asahi afterthought. Seeing as how it is not really a mechanical part of the lens body, being simply pressed in & fastened there with a tiny drop or two (each side) of glue (rubber cement)...
Why they added the baffle later (or in the first place) could be 1) to keep dust out or 2) to actually baffle light lens projects into camera? _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮
