I'm very close to a set (off-Ebay, going to see and check the stuff personally):

- Pentacon 6 TL
- metering pentaprism viewfinder
- "pit" viewfinder (what is the English name?)
- macro extension tubes
- CZJ Biometar 2.8/80 (equivalent of 50mm FOV)
- MIR-26B 3.5/45 (equivalent of 28mm FOV)

Added bonus for me: I can use the lenses on my EOS cameras also (I have the P6-EOS adapter)
Another bonus: i would be able to natively use on the Pentacon my current P6 lenses (Volna-3, Jupiter-36B 3.5/250, CZJ Sonnar 4/300)

Let's see how it turns out. Looking at those old German B&W pictures has started in me again the desire of shooting film in MF.

But it would be unfair if I didn't mention what really restarted it: Bill's photos with the Kowa 6.

Bill, that magnificent tree picture, and those portraits you shot, really were an inspiration. Thank you!! I will hold you responsible for this new expense and present you the bill Laughing

Oh wait perhaps this just makes it even with your Jupiter-37s Wink

(P.S. I am not joking about the inspiration)

Well, good luck with your upcoming purchase! Very Happy I'm after a Ricohflex Dia
on ebay right now. I can't wait to try slide film, which is supposed to
really bring out medium format's full potential. I'll have to send it to a
lab in Atlanta for processing, but that's the way it goes. The mirror
viewfinder will take a little to get used to, but you're lucky to have the
prism viewfinder as well.

Can't wait to see your first efforts posted here! Very Happy

I hope to have some more to post in a few days.

Bill

So you did develop those B&W yourself?

Oh no, but I plan to develop BW in the future. There's a shop in town
that will do color and BW negs but not slide (E-6 processing).

When you do, let me know. I want to learn too. But I have no idea where to start.
I guess this is one of those cases where a tutorial isn't enough. You really need a real course. I mean one you can attend.

I keep my fingers crossed for you, Orio!

Medium format is fun, even with my old Adox 6x6 or my 1941 Dehel 4,5x6, let alone with a set like (hopefully) yours!

And processing your own b/w pics also is a great thing to do.
I had to do it when I worked as a freelancer for a local newspaper in 1990/91, but have done it ever since only once. Miss it somehow...

B & W development is very easy I did my self. No difficulties. Don't worry.

Have you noticed that I may get yet another MIR lens? Shocked Very Happy
I hadn't planned that but it's in the set.
I wonder how it is, and how it will work on film!
I love MIRs

I really don't know where to start. Have no idea of what is needed, of what will cost... for me it would be like to build a bridge. Just no idea of where to start! Laughing

Wow, and what a great price!!!

What are the two lenses for? I always wondered about that when looking at the Rolleiflexes.

Top lens is the viewing lens, bottom one is the taking lens. By the pictures
this cam looks in great shape! Cheap shipping, too.

Here's a gallery of a lesser model Ricohflex:

Whaddaya think?

Saturday morning.
If everything turns out ok, I may bring the set home.

Well, the P6 is not exactly the camera of my dreams... I also read horrible stories about the problems with film frame overlapping... but the fact is, it's either P6 or nothing. Both the Mamiya and the Pentax 645 models are way out of my current budget.
Yet, I still hope the P6 may be sufficient enough to let me have some fun.

I saw some pretty cheap Kiev 60s on ebay, but the shipping across the
pond was killer. You might want to look at the Kiev 60 and 88 before
you buy the Pentacon 6....up to you.

The Kiev 60 has an even worst mechanical reputation than the Pentacon 6... so no real benefit.
Finding good Kiev 60 in working order is said to be a miracle.
As for the Kiev 88, not all are compatible with the P6 mount lenses, only the latest models are.
I already have 3 P6 mount lenses so it makes sense to stay there.
Of course the ideal solution would be a Mamiya or Pentax with adapters... but as I said, out of current budget.

I hope to have some more pics to post by the weekend from my Kowa
Six! Smile

Looking forward to them !!!

What film are you using on the Kowa?
Here the film supply is minimum if non existent. We are already a small province, and now digital has killed practically all request for film, so shops keep little or nothing. I went to buy a test roll for the P6 today, and all that I could find is a B&W TMAX 100 roll.

I'm shooting ISO 400 Fujicolor Pro and ISO 400 Arista B/W Ultra on my
favorite model. The thing about the Kowa is the shutter speed tops at
1/500. So faster film is definitely a help in that regard. I found out today
that my focusing is off because I was using my glasses. If I bring the
camera's magnifier up to my eye to focus, I see the image clearly, first
time! Well, we'll see if the focus is better this time around. With your
prism viewfinder, you'll be able to see things quite clearly, even in full
sun.

I'm looking to get some slide film on ebay, too.

Arista... I never heard of it. I made a quick search and it turned out that Arista film is the same as Forte film. Which, if I am right, should be an Hungarian company. Correct, Attila?

PostPosted: Fri Mar 30, 2007 12:44 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yes, Forte is Hungarian. Unfortunately not available any more, they closed their factory couple of month ago.
