I got this lens a year ago for free - Pentacon auto 2.8/135 MC with 6 blades. Base and front element were almost falling apart, very bad shape, but cosmetically ok. It had been forgotten until I found it and try to clean and tighten together. The results are not bad at all for a free lens but with little work.

#1 - #6: wide open, #7 - #9: at f4. Used on Pentax K20d.

Yep - great IQ. What cam did you use ? Is this the lens often named as "bokeh monster" ?

I bought one for I believe 10 € at a local camera fair 2 or 3 years ago but never used it. Should really give it a try. Perhaps an underrated gem ?

Sorry Rolf, I forgot to mention which cam again.
I used with Pentax K20d with split screen, SR on, sunny day, but occasionally with cloud.

No this lens is not the bokeh monster. It has only 6 partly rounded blades.
As Pancolart mentioned: 'If you like shooting wide-open there is no need for buying expensive preset version.'
But at f4, the shape of iris still almost perfectly round.

Yes very sharp wide open, minimal of glowing. I got surprised when viewing on my pc

Wow, those are great.

There's a preset version sitting at a camera store near me for 32 quid, I'm sorely tempted after seeing these. But I won't. I've spent too much recently!

The second image is stunning. Some people might say it's slightly washed out, I don't think so. It's captured tones in the colours that are superb. It's a very nice image. That's a lens I'll look out for.

I think the washed out look complements the subject perfectly, makes it look old and worn, which it is! Smile

White balance is on the blueish side.

Other than that these are pretty good images, nice lens.

Bokeh monster is its older brother, we often call it "preset lens".
The auto lens, I think it's okay, but not so brilliant.

Resurrecting old thread because why not. I got one of these for free as well and it's a really nice lens. Looks very good, like new almost, only the sun shade is a little wobbly and it doesn't close past f/5.6, but who needs that anyway. It's already sharp enough wide open, closing down a bit only improves contrast and flare resistance in strong light. There was none of that the other day when I took it out though, so all photos at f/2.8:

on the strength of this thread I bought one, and I wasn't disappointed.

Excellent results.
As has been said, it is hard to find a bad 135mm lens, but this one is definitely one of the better ones.
Well taken

Really nice samples. These kind of thread resurrections are nice to recall when we have one of those... Rolling Eyes
Mine is the electric version, I have to find it and resurrect it as well.
Thanks to both for sharing, (Miram for the resurrection and hoanpham for the initial thread).
