I spent long time looking for a M42 macro-converter, but all versions I found were designed for mounts. I bought this one on ebay, it was sold as Canon macro set (Revuenon 55/1.4 + Panagor macro + M42->Canon adapter).

This converter is designed primarily for 50mm lenses and is able to focus ~ 25-30cm (at max. magnification 1:1) or 50-150cm (at min. magnification 1:10).

DOF is very narrow:

and it creates nice bokeh (ok, myosotis in the background helped a bit too Smile )

Both pictures (click to enlarge) are taken with Asahi Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 50/1.4 + this converter.

4 additional optical elements (without proper multicoating) and "zoom" effect introduce a bit softer image and some aberration, but I think the results are still quite applicable. The main problem is extremely narrow DOF (small fraction of mm), so majority of the object is unsharp.

I guess Cosmin has right a simple M42 ring + a 10$ Helios perform better.

But this solution lacks the zoom ability. Extension tubes with zoom ability are hard to find and quite expensive.

Anyway, this is also very good toy. Macro rings are boring Very Happy
