I just converted another of the pictures I took with the Apo-Telyt 180mm with the D700 in Yosemite NP. This one was taken from Glacier Point and is by far the best I took.

@ f5.6 ISO 200

How about black and white? I'm not good at this, so any criticism is welcome.

I prefer the colored version Its a very beautyful shot. I think there is to much black in the B/W version and the sky should have a bit more texture.

greetings Timo

Thanks Timo. You are definitely right about too much black, which is easy to change. I don't know, how to give more texture to the sky.

very good!

maybe you can make the blue sky a bit darker so the white clouds would show a little bit more contrast to the rest of the sky. I think it's worth a try Wink

I like the B/W version. I would try to make the blue sky almost black, and maybe add some contrast (a lot)

I like both versions very much. At first sight I would have choosen the color version, but now I tend more towards the B&W version.

Beautiful, Thomas.

I prefer the color one because I find it more subtle in the tones changes.

Red filter Smile

Your conversion is nice but it shows why I prefer film for B&W. It is very difficult to obtain from a digital file the same type of contrast in the middle tones that graces the good B&W films and prints.

I love this picture, so I tried to work just a little bit on it. The file is to small to get a good result, but this is the way I would go.

Just let me know if you want me to remove it.

Hi Henrik,

thank you very much for your suggestion. Why should you remove it?

I also prefer the colour-version, because I'm a sucker for colours and that's how I see the world. I love B&W by people like Salgado, Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams and the other great B&W-photographers, but I am a colour-photographer. That's why I just got the second big volume by Steve McCurry from Phaidon. Wow!

one play from me.

I did make more dark sky and put more light and darkness on rocks. Acdsee 2.5.

Attila's version works for me.
Good middle contrast brings the textures of the rock to live.

It certainly does. This version is really great. Thanks Attila.
