Well this is a hypothetical discussion of course... but I was thinking about the issue of oily aperture blades and understanding that it becomes a big problem when the camera is stopping down the lens on the fly as it slows down those tiny blades, however for people using legacy lenses on manual focus cameras that do not have the ability (such as m4/3) the lens is being stopped down ahead of time and therefore speed is not a concern as long as it moves correctly...

So does this mean that an oily aperture lens might be a good bargain for a m4/3 user?

Obviously the other factors to consider include whether the oil has gotten on the optics and or whether the aperture still functions properly. Assuming that is not the case is it worth the gamble that it won't get worse?

It depends. I have a couple of oily lenses, and the oil prevents it stopping down beyond f5.6 Sad But if your goes all the way down, then no problem Cool

It also depends how long it takes to stop down. If it takes half an hour for the blades to creep to the position you selected... Smile
