This lens is indeed gorgeous, absolutely beautiful!

And while it costs €1000,- it feels like a million!!!

OK, mates, here is the truth:

This lens is not mine! I got it from Zeiss and I can keep it for about one week in order to "test" it and to write a report on this lens for you guys.
Zeiss is very interested in this forum, so they sent me this lens.

However bad it is to give this lens back, I am very grateful to have it for one week.

The first impression is, as you all might expect, fantastic!
It feels so solid, so perfectly manufactured. I guess I have never "felt" such a lens before.

I have taken the first shots tonight at dinner, when our kids were eating and later when our daughter was playing with some modelling clay.
The results which I will show later, are excellent, if, yes, if you are able to hit the focus! This is extremely difficult with an f1.4 / 85mm lens and no focussing aid (apart from the rather unreliable Canon "beep") in the viewfinder.
I hit the focus in about 1 of 5 shots. More later...

That's very interesting Smile Congratulations.

Btw. do you have the posibility to find out, if Zeiss plans to produce even ZS version of this (or other) lens?

This lens is so fast, you can directly look into the afterlife. Wink

Tell them they need to send it over here to a tester also...I would love to use it for a week....Yes,it's hard to nail the focus on all 1.4's on DSLR's. I get about the same 1 in 5 ratio myself. Then again, I'm using a Nikon D70s,whose viewfinder leaves a lot to be desired...I like the results you posted in another thread...Lucky you!!!

What an honor for you, Carsten! This is thrilling even to me, clear across the Atlantic Ocean and the US continent!

Congratulations. You deserve it, though.

Congrats, Carsten. I'm pleased that you were selected to test out this brand new lens.

(Also interesting - logical, but gratifying - that Zeiss is 'interested in' this forum)
