I think you have the colours confused though - on your graph the exposure time is in red and the slit width is green.

I don't know if I got it right. Do the colors I chose have a special meaning? Or do you think I've made a mistake?

You've reversed the colours. On the graph the time segments are red and the slit width is green.

Now read your message carefully:

In a well adjusted shutter, the size of green segments, which give the exposure time, are constant, but the size of red segments, which give the width of the slit between curtains, increase continuously.

You're correct. I really confused the colors in the text. Laugh 1

Already corrected my post. Thank you, Peter!!!

So are people thinking this is possible?

Yes. Now what? Smile

I'm guessing I need to pick a camera and then see if I can get info on the film advance to see if it can be modified. I have an F100 but I think if it all worked, marking the viewfinder would be a bit of an issue.

Jeez, try it on N65 or something first.

Well if I can find out that the transport is in some way mechanical on the F100 I don't mind giving it a shot. If it's not it will be a total issue.

Via internet search there should be some mechanical drawings of shutter and film advance mechanisms, even, perhaps, some animations -- I have seen these in popular media such as in Nova tv broadcasts.

I.e., figure out how you'd modify the mechanical drawings -- the techniques for other cameras should be similar enough to make this a worthy exercise before breaking into any actual equipment...

In fact, the curtain speed doesn't need to be constant. A real curtain comes out of immobility and its speed increases continuously as it runs through the focal plane. For the exposure to be uniform, it is the necessary and sufficient that the graphs of distances traveled versus time for both curtains be parallel (a shift in time, or a delay) as shown below. In a well adjusted shutter, the size of red segments, which give the exposure time, is constant, but the size of green segments, which give the width of the slit between curtains, increases continuously.

Yes, that makes sense.

I think I'll post in a Nikon forum to see if anybody has any has any transport system knowledge on the F100 as I have one here. I am concerned about marking the viewfinder if the rest works though.
