I just came back from a two-week trip to the northern part of California, staying with two very good friends in a small town near San Francisco.
They took me to Yosemite National Park (where Ansel Adams took so many great pictures), Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, Sonoma, Monterey and other places.
At the wharf in San Francisco, I met some of Luis Alegria's birds, who really sit still without blinking an eye until you are almost on top of them. Very good models!
The lenses I took along where the MIRD-20N, the Nikkor Noct 58/1.2 and the Leica Apo-Telyt 180/3.4. I also had an AF 28-105mm Nikkor with me, but didn't use it.
Here are some of the pictures, all with the D700, the first 4 at ISO 320:

Green Apple Books, a very nice bookshop with lots of used books in SF.
Noct 58 @ f5.6

One of the many seagulls at the wharf in SF. Noct 58 @ f2

Cannery Row in Monterey.
180mm Apo-Telyt @ f3.4

A young seagull, also in Monterey. Same as above

A wonderful old poster from 1930 in an Italian restaurant in Carmel. It was behind glass, hence the reflections. I had to use ISO 1600, or else it wouldn't have been possible. Also with the Apo-Telyt at @ 3.5

You are really giving Luis a run for his gulls' money! Glad you enjoyed the trip so much and they are excellent shots to give as a sample. Look forward to more
