I too like the looks of it very much. Some folks say it's styled to look like an FM, but I believe they're incorrect. If you compare the styling of the FM's viewfinder to that of the FE, you will see that the DF's styling more closely resembles the FE's than the FM's. Still, when it comes to styling, I think Nikon has hit a home run.
Watching the videos, I note with interest that he appears to be mounting a manual focus Nikkor to the camera at the very end of the third video, and then at the very end of the fourth video is the unmistakable movement a photographer makes when focusing a lens. So, this camera is promoting the retro angle in more than one way, isn't it? I wouldn't be surprised if it is designed to accept Pre-AI lenses as well and that it will meter with all Nikkors, not just the latest alphabet soup ones.
I'm curious --- does anyone know what is meant by the DF being a "hybrid?" I'm thinking that "hybrid" means that it will be possible to tuck the mirror out of the way, so it can be used as a mirrorless camera. But if that's the case, how is it different from Live View? So anyway, I'm puzzled. _________________ Michael

Yes, I believe the Df has hit a home-run regarding its styling. But if the $2750 price is to be believed -- for a 16mp camera? Then that's a total strike out for me. I need my next digital camera to have at least 20 mp. _________________ Michael

Two of each! Because you'll have the black ones dialed in for 1) slow b&w and 2) fast b&w, and the chrome ones for 1) slow (slide) color and 2) fast color.
And to complete the retro feel, you should only use one of the bodies for metering. _________________ -Jussi

The only concern is this thing is real, while a Pentax is still a dream.
It looks 'masculine', male oriented body, engineer-porn, but looks nice to me.
(Sometimes when I am using the contax RTS iii, I wish it has a full LCD in the rear )
Not sure what focus screen the Df has. F4 and F5 is hard enough with >o< indicator.
I would like a split screen. |
