Attila, never mind about the D1x, find a store that has a used D2x and
LMK. I'll take a military hop over and help you get it. This will be a
nighttime operation... Laughing

Yeah, I miss my D50 and D70, too. I just loved the ergonomics, the
feel of those cameras! And very reponsive with fast fast startup! And
that electronic rangefinder for focus confirm! Rethinking things, now,
dunno, with Tamron native Nikon mounts, and just using old Nikkors,
and Vivs with Nikon mounts, might have been a nice road to travel.

Another problem that they allegedly have dealt with in their most recent
models, is noise going up in the ISOs. Another thing, and Orio and a few
others have shown this, is how Canon does color. I place even my Oly
above Nikon when it comes to color. Of course this could be worked with
in Photoshop.

Yes, I agree with you except colors I like more Nikon colors than Canon.

Hummm, I see, when was the last time you took a Colour FALANT
test, or equivalent? Just kidding... Wink

A matter of preference, of course.

I suspect many of us are dealing with two separate issues when it comes to colour:

1) Properly calibrated monitors
2) Saturation, as opposed to colour.

My experience suggests that the Canon algorithm goes for more saturation than Nikon and is related to the philosophy of sharpness, where Canon looks for more sharpness from the box (partly due to anti-aliasing of the chip). Frankly, although a committed nikon user, I think most people cannot tell the difference between the two after suitable post-processing - it becomes much more the photographer's "eye".

More than Canon vs. Nikon I would put it as CMOS vs. CCD, which I think is more correct.

I always found the CMOS colours more natural and "soothing" in the situations where you have many intermediate shades (such as sunsets, twilight, and the like), while I find the CCD interpretation of colours more "aggressive" and bold.
Of course this is my personal sensation. I have used both CCD and CMOS (I used to have an Olympus digital camera, a compact, but good quality)

Orio, you beat me to it about the CMOS sensor. Sony makes CMOS
sensors, but they don't seem to be the equal of Canon's. The D2x uses
a Sony-made CMOS sensor, and has colors that are almost as pleasing
as Canon's. Unfortunately and genetically speaking, since they use the
Sony CMOS, it has the noise in higher ISO, too, which the Canon does
not. The new Nikons are supposed to deal with this noise problem, will
be interesting to see if this is true.

Hello,

I saw this one on a romanian auction site http://www.okazii.ro/catalog/3762002/echipament-fotografic/aparate-foto-digitale/peste-megapixeli/Nikon-D1X-Body.html
It says it has only ~8000 shutter releases (this means is almost new, for a pro camera, I suppose) is in good shape and costs 800 EUROS, without shipping.
I didn't look on ebay to make a price comparison. Is says also that it can be checked if one can go to the seller. He is selling it because needs the money very urgently. The city is Craiova ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craiova )
But , still, I don't know how trusty can be the seller. Sorry.

Cosmin.
