How do I tell if a lens is ai, ais or non ai? Also, I found a guy who is selling his nikkor 28 f2.8 and nikkor 35 f2.5 for $50 buck a piece. Worth it?

I think you mean Nikon 35 2.5, which was in the e series. The Nikkor 35 2.5 was an underwater lens.
Link to the 35 2.5 E series.

Victor, I believe in another thread you said your camera was Canon EOS, it really dosen't matter if its non AI, AI, or AIS, because they will all work on EOS Digital cams.

Actually if one is pursuing Nikkor lens, one should use all the resources available to gain as much insight as possible. That would include using Bjřrn Rřrslett's and David Ruether's evaluations as well as the websites listed in my previous post.
To confirm or provide a more in depth evaluation by countless photographers,Photo.net's Nikon forums have the deepest archives and Nikkor discussions available on the net dating back to the 90's.

I would suggest rereading those links till you become familiar with the difference between non-AI,AI and AI-S...this is one of the simplest for identification>http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikortek.htm

The simplest way is to verify the serial number.....http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html#24

You can identify an AI-s, as opposed to an AI, lens, by:

1.) The smallest aperture (largest number, f/22) on the ADR scale (the second set of tiny aperture numbers) is in orange.

2.) You'll see a half-round cutout in the mount.

Your lens serial number identifies it as the final AI version, which AFAIC is the preferred version with 160° of focus throw versus the 80° of focus throw of the AI-S version.

BTW...your lens doesn't have the milled cutout on the mount as in the picture above, correct?
