Yesterday lunchtime we had a welcome break from the seemingly unrelenting gloom and rain so I had a chance to try out my new 35mm F2 AIS Nikkor.

First impressions are beautiful smooth transitions wide open, perhaps a touch soft but very useable:

Sharpening up a lot 1 stop down but still pretty smooth:

I'm very impressed with this lens' performance. At f22 diffraction kicks in and it's too soft for me but every other aperture is great.

Looks cool like a longer focal length lens, you are lucky really with this lens.

Yes these wide angle Nikkors are surprisingly good close up - even the ultra wide 20mm 2.8 is pretty smooth in my view:

I bought from Orio the predecessor of this lens and I love it!
With this Nikkor and the MIR-1B I do not need another 35mm lens.

The 1.4 is a pretty lens - gives beautiful OOF at f2 where it is really sharp as well. But the f2 is a very hard act to follow and is even great in its AF form. Enjoy it, it's a treasure

Thanks - I will. The 1.4 is a 'if I see it very cheap lens' Wink

The first shot looks very promising. Be nice to see some people shots with it.

I'll have to be brave and attempt some portraits again - it's not something I've ever been comfortable with.
