By the way, with regards to the words for "city" it is very interesting to see the various instances of the name and where they come from.

The proper Latin word for city, that was Urbs, has not survived (AFAIK) in a modern name, but it's present as a derivation of it's adjective urbanus in several adjectives of today like English "urban" or Italian "urbano", and derived words.

The Latin word Civitas, which is not easily translateable, had a meaning that mixed the concepts of "ensemble of humans", "social culture" and "nationality", and has provided the root for several languages: English "city", Italian "città", Spanish "ciudad", Portuguese "cidade" and probably others more

Another Latin word, Villa, which could mean, depending on the context, "large luxury house with gardens", or "country farm", or also the "downtown" of military camps (the heart of the military camp), has provided the root for the French word "ville".

And last but not least, the ancient Greek's Polis has survived in several derived words, such as "politics", "politician" et c., present in several of today's languages.

Swedish, a bit tricky really you got some options

Swedish - Rough translation
Stadsfärger - Citycolours
Stadsfärg - Citycolour
Färger från en stad - Colours of a city
Stadens färger - City colours

Depends a bit on how your going to use it.

Hi all,

Just for your knowledge, the latin word "urbis" for city has survived in Spanish. We use "urbe" as city as well, but in a rather poetical/literary usage.

...and I also know of a rock bar near my place called "La Urbe"

http://urbedelkas.com/

Regards,

Fer

"color of the city" translates to Finnish as "kaupungin väri" though I am not sure if this text shows with the Scandinavian letters on your computer as it should.

Testing: Å Ä Ö å ä ö

It would help to get the context, because as with Swedish the translation is dependent on what it is referring to.

It will be www.colorofthecity.com in different languages, so they will be in latin alphabet, I'm not sure about the Asian countries' status but I guess they also use latin alphabet in domain adresses.

I've the Turkish and English domain name and I want to add the main languages like French, Italian, German, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Then others can be obtained. This is a long-run project so for now this domain names will be just expenses Smile

It's a city guide project so my 5D was and ultra-wide angle lens was intended to be used in this project to capture the city details. After finishing the library codes I'll begin with my city and will widened the coverage area of the system. Yes, it as long-run project Smile

Romanian: Culorile oraşului
Orio, all the latin words your cited are still in use in romanian with almost exact meaning as in latin — there are small diferences i.e. vila means not only house but big/special/distincive house. Let's not forget that around 80% of romanian words have latin roots, maybe that's the reason it's easy for me to speak/understad italian, spanish or french. Or maybe i'm just special Very Happy

Let me say something very different in Hungarian.

Város színei with right Hungarian alphabets.

Without special characters:

Varos szinei

Thanks a lot guys, it's interested to read this in different languages Smile
And in Turkish it's "şehrin rengi" bu t probably you won't be able to see the first character so safer one: "sehrin rengi"

My name has also 2 unsafe characters of 6 which is in real "Yalçın" but I'm using the safer one "Yalcin" Smile
