Are the Volna 9 and the Helios 40. What are your gotta-haves?

Bill

I would be happy if I knew it ended up to you rather than an unknown person.

My next two will probably be an Helios-40 and a Zenitar-16.
If I can make the list longer, I'd add a Volna as well.
But it depends on the market and on my economy Wink
It might well be that the next lens could have a rangefinder attached in the back... Very Happy

Best regards,
Jes.

Next two for me:

1. A good fairly fast (2.8 or better) macro, 50, 55, or 90 will do, I don't mind getting in close, since I don't generally shoot bugs or moving objects. Will solicit recommendations from you folks, and will look at the reviews. German or Russian glass would be nice.

2. Tamron SP 300 will be tested next week, so that is technically the second must have lens.

I don't know how many fast macro lenses exist. I know of course of the Zeiss ZF Makro-Planar 2/100, which reaches a 1:2 magnification, and that could be a fantastic lens but you would have to be ready to spend around 1000 Euros because the lens is only available new for the moment.

But generally speaking I think that the concept of "fast" and "macro" hardly go well together, first because the distance from the film plane makes them naturally dark and second because any f/stop faster than f/8 are hardly of any use in macrophotography (due to very shallow DOF) unless you want to do "moody bokeh" shots with very little parts of subject in the focused range.
For which purpose, by the way, a far better (not to mention cheaper) solution than a macro lens is to get a very fast 50mm (like f/1.4 or f/1.2) and attach extension tubes behind it.

I have macro lenses from 50mm to 200mm from f2.8 to f4 . Smart solution is a Nikkor 55mm f3.5 Macro 1:1 + flash or ring flash.Without external light source you able to make good macro photo only on direct sunlight in my opinion. Fast lens doesn't need at all because need to use at least F8 to get some distance in sharpness. With open aperture you can't get sharp the full bug.

I only have one must-have at present (and it takes second place to decent photo-scanner). I don't have any lenses between 58 and 135mm apart from Tamron zooms, so something around 85-100 would be nice, M42 only. Maybe a Jupiter-9, although I'm not sure about the bokeh, or a Tak 85 but they always seem to go for too many ???s.

Tak 85 one of the most expensive M42 lens. Pentacon or orestegor 100mm f2.8 has beautiful bokeh and not an expensive lens at all.

Next gotta have lens : a f1.2 50mm'ish lens. Hard to find below 150$ ... Sad

PostPosted: Fri Nov 09, 2007 12:50 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I bought mine (Nikkor 50mm f1.2 AIS ) 300 USD, under 150 USD pretty unrealistic expectation. I passed one to Carsten I remember it wasn't go on high price but wasn't cheap at all. I suppose cheapest is Minolta.

Yes, simple luck only I guess it was before Pentax DSLR getting more popular.

Yes, it was a good price (ca. Euro 140,- incl. shipping) but that is still about $200,-.

What are my next must-have lenses?

I am almost afraid to say that there is none. Shocked
There is no real "must-have", after I have found a Nikkor 1.8/85. Embarassed

But these lenses would be some kind of "nice-to-haves":

- Leica Elmarit 2.8/28 or Leica Elmarit 2.8/135 (just to have and compare a Leica lens to my others)
- MIR-20 or MIR-47 or Belomo 2.8/17 or Flek 2.8/20 or Flek 4/20 or Tokina 17 or Tamron 17 or Cosina 17 (or any other manual superwide, so that I can do some wide angle shots with an MF lens.)
- Jupiter-3 1.5/50 (M39 LTM) or a superwide for my M39 FED-3b

There's a Mir 20 on ebay (slight scratch but looks pretty good) Click here to see on Ebay

Making o with a Nikkor 85/1.8 - you mean you're not looking for a 1.4? Wink

PostPosted: Fri Nov 09, 2007 4:45 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Unfortunately having fallen into this band of lunatics, my list is now way more than two more lenses. I have the Sonnar 180/2.8 pentacon 6 fit on its way. And a Tamron 135/2.5. Then there's the Jupiter-37 to find, a Tair-11, Mir-38B (pentacon 6 fit) ---- and so on....

Thanks, but beyond my budget this month. I already have bought two fine lenses. Wink And there is a Camera fair to come at the end of November.

No, I am not, definitely. The f1.4 will surely be too expensive. I would have a bad conscience to pay that much for a lens at the moment.
There are many things my kids will need in the next time.
This is the point where I become reasonable. Wink

I mean I have expected to buy a 2.0/85 someday and now I will have a 1.8/85 - more than I have wished for. So, no need to be faster. Wink
