My new 40D is a killer.
My old 400D was forgotten after 2 minutes without a single tear.
This 40D is a manual lenses machine.

Tv reborn
With manual lenses we had choice between Av & M.
Now for low light I set Tv, select my security speed for the lens and the minimum aperture. The dslr will change iso on the fly, a revolution

Focus screen Ef-s
Now I can focus a zoom @ F8 in daylight with ease and surgical precision

Return of the view camera
In the first step of photography, the camera didn't have a viewfinder; the photographer used a ground glass to focus.
Now it's called liveview.
Today I used only this new mode and I can say that even without the zoom mode it's perfectly usable even on my 28mm wide open @F2 where the viewfinder is hit & miss
F11 without stop down metering is a pleasure. I can now use all my manual lenses at every aperture without limitations.

Sraw
This mode is really interesting for high iso. The resulting files are very clean and sharp, ideal mode for snapshot who will not be printed higher than 13x18cm

6.5fps
Noiseless gun machine, I like this new game and I feel like a high tech warrior with it.

user mode
with so many custom settings the 3 users mode are handy. I put the Sraw with Tv mode in C1.

weight
the 400D is a nice little machine. Last year with my 300g lenses it was a king. Now that I have 600g and more lens the 40D is more balanced.
I was thinking about the 450D for size but now that I used the 40D it seems like a joke.

Next step
Next year the new 5D will be the new killer machine but with the 40D it will be easy to wait.

I have to admit - reluctantly as a nikon user - that I really love he results from this camera. I have not ben able to use it much yet because of the weather, but it has completely revolutionized my approach with manual lenses. I bought it for just that purpose and I love the way it works with them. I'm with you Poilu

Congratulations, that is a dream camera at an affordable price. If I had not spent so much lately, I would buy it.

Thanks, usually I get bored of new toys after 3 weeks.
Thats quite long, my daughter get bored after 1 hour Smile

Today I walk 1 hour with 3 friends and took shots on the move.
It would not be possible to use liveview, the viewfinder is faster.
It was landscape, I rely on focus confirm and Ef-s was not needed.
For this kind of shot a 30D would be more than enough
At 700 euros the 30D is a great value,
with manual lenses I think the 40D Ef-s, liveview and better crossed focus are great value for critical focus, macro, wide open or in low light

Did you ever read Michael Reichman's review on the 40D?
