My 1st Olympus SLR is the rare, short lived, 1 and only Olympus M42 screw mount camera, Olympus FTL. I did not know Olympus actually made M42 camera until I saw someone over here post a sale ad on it. Its a pity it did not comes with original Olympus M42 lens. I had not tried the metering as I am trying to get the battery. The shutters works fine till 1/60. Slower than that, 1/30, the mirror will stuck up. The light seal had corroded.
Background info taken from

With the launch of the Olympus FTL in 1971, Olympus targeted overseas markets for the first time. It was a single-lens reflex camera with a 42mm Practica mount. Six lenses were available, ranging from 28mm to 200mm. Though the camera used a screw-mount system, it also featured a stopper to fix the position of the lens and provided precise exposure linkage based on open-aperture metering. The Olympus FTL was on the market for only a short time, since its role ended with the appearance of the OM-1.

Congrats for this beauty! I hears these cameras are not manufactured by Olympus they dropped onto market because OM series had significant delay. _________________

Good find, Kris! One of the interesting dead ends in 35mm SLR development. The Ricoh Auto TLS was another. Shutter priority automatic exposure with M42 lenses. _________________ Depress clutch before shifting paradigms. |

Nice catch Kris - I'm also on the lookout for a nice but cheap FTL at the moment. I won a 'don't know what I'm letting myself in for, as there are no photos of the gear, but $15.00 can't be bad' Spotmatic some months ago which was advertised as coming with "a 50mm lens". Imagine my surprise and genuine delight when the lens turned out to be a Zuiko 1.8/50 in M42 mount. And in immaculate condition _________________

Gorgeous lines on the camera! It is very cool that you got this fairly rare equipment. I would love to see results from the camera and any lens. _________________
