Am I alone in feeling shy about taking street shots like this? I feel I need to ask permission first, but that would ruin the moment. Any tips?

Don't do it if you feel shy.. or use long telephoto Smile

you are certainly not alone. I do think about that a lot...

However, the way I do it now is: Just take the shot, and when you see the person's reaction, there are 3 possibilities:

1. You get a "what the hell are you doing?"-angry look. Then I just smile and go to the person, and explain why I took the photo. I also give him/her my website address. If they still insist, I delete the photo and apologize...that last has never happened to me before.

2. You get a smile and somewhat shy reaction, or sometimes a very enthusiastic one. For example after the "gotcha" shot, the girl heard the "click" of my camera mirror, and just started laughing really hard Laughing
I usually give my website adress to them too.

3. Most of the time the people don't even notice you or when they do, they don't care. In bigger cities like Brussels you get that a lot...

Thanks for all the encouragements guys Smile

Tom

You most definitely should! I have a very comfortable couch in my apartment.

I just participated in a Belgian-German exchange project around multimedia last week! All the Germans loved Gent, they liked it a lot more than Brussels Wink

next year we get to go to Berlin though, I bet that'll be great too Very Happy
