The lens is designed by computer softwares. The Optical part looks the same with Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 85/2. I use the lens about 4 months, it's very sharp, even at F2.8.

The optical design of this Mitakon is a symmetric 6/6, so it's a double-Gauss, or Planar equivalent. Sonnars are highly asymmetric, and the particular Sonnar 85/2 was a triplet derivative with just three lens groups.

Now, I wonder why the designers chose the 6/6 formula. It is used for normal lenses more often than for short teles. If I recall it correctly, the designers of Nikkor-H 85/1.8 went similar route, but used two cemented groups to keep flare under control (single coating were the norm then):

Sorry, I'm not good at English, but I gonna try my best.

the optical part looks the same with Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 85/2, 6/6 formula. I post a picture to show how the formula looks like.

the formula on the box is a kind of graphic design, it's not the formula of this lens.

Designers say that cemented groups may cause some problems. for this lens, flare are under control becouse of the multi coatings.

I see what you mean. This "Sonnar" is actually double-Gouss, or Planar design. The "Sonnar" part is just a trademark, which is misused here I believe. Thus the Mitakon lens is actually a classic double-Gauss, Planar type design.

i did a brief 100% crop comparison of 3 lenses.

100% crop Helios 44-2

100% crop Mitakon 85mm F2

100% crop Tamron 17-50mm F2.8

I guess it is only PK-mount for Pentax, not PK-A?

aoleg: Have you had time to take some test shots? It seems to me that the Jupiter 9 is a good lens to compare with at price point and f/2.

Didn't go out with it yet, can only post a few test (meaning: test) shots. Click for larger size. 2nd image demonstrates field curvature. All three taken wide open. It's still evident that the lens is quite soft wide open, but has nice contrast and colors (and huge field curvature).

Compared to Jupiter-9, the Jupiter retains more fine detail wide open (meaning higher spatial resolution), while the Mitakon has much higher contrast. Field curvature is much better controlled with the Jupiter, too. Bokeh is subjective; it's more predictable (and smoother) with the Mitakon.

Thank you Aoleg. Huh, huh, it's so hard to find positive sides based on samples. When you manage please take it out for a walk.

Just did some research myself and apparently it actually is PK-A. Besides, there seems to be a silver version availiable. Very Happy

The silver version is the pre-order version.

I'd like to see a portrait with the lens. I would bet that is what most people by fast 85's for. Some of that softness wide open might actually be a good thing.

All those pics have been adjusted by Photoshop.
I will provide machine-direct .jpgs if anybody would like to see.

and Mitakon Optics Company will provide all products worldwide via ebay.

I'm going to hold a worldwide-group-buy, and maybe could provide silver version products.

Hmm, your sample seems quite a bit sharper than mine. QC variation or Mitakon has improved the performance of this lens?
