Well, I won one today. I was after one it's several months. It's not M42 it's Nikon mount, which is not ideal, but I could only find M42 ones on ex-USSR seller pages.
I hope it clears the 5D mirror. If it does, and if it's good, I may sell the Mir-20M, if you are interested.

I may also sell the Mir-47N, in case it doesn't clear the 5D mirror.

Which version do you have, Martin?

Orio, the Nikon adapter shouldn't be a problem. You are the one who brought me to Nikon-EOS-adapters and they work! (Thanks!)

C.

The 5D is a different beast, Carsten.
I can use my (gorgeous) 24mm and 28mm NIkkors on the 400D.
On the 5D, I can not even mount them.

Ah, OK, I see.
You still have the 400D, haven't you?
Take this one then...

It is similar with my Pentax-K-EOS-adapters. They work with my 350D without adjusting (and destroying) the lens but not at my film EOS (500 / 600).

I will never sell it until it falls down to pieces.
The dust cleaning system is worth alone the price of the camera.

This is normal, 350D is a crop format sensor and the mirror is smaller.
The film EOSes are full frame cameras and therefore have the same problem as the 5D.

None, but a guy I met at a German forum, he has a current one.

I'm just searching my whole harddrive for the picture, it was OKish, little soft at the egdes, even stopped down, but very sharp in the center. A real bargain, you can get the lens new at Rugift fot only 160$

Ah, ok.
Would be nice to know if it's a Mir-47M, Mir-47N or Mir-47K.

My fear is that the Nikon version may not clear the mirror.
AI Nikon has those strange protruding back parts.

Regrettably I don't have any experience with Nikon lenses, but I treated some Pentax K ones in order to work with the 5d and cut up the aperture lever. For some the lenses the effort was it worth, for some really not. And without the aperture lever they are only saleable to Canon users...

If you see anything protuding behind your Nikon-EF adapter, I would recommend to sell the lens to a Nikon user and go for a new M42 version. But don't expect too much, the MIR is nice to handle due to its brightness, okish for casual use, but as a copy of the Flek 20/2.8 only at the same level: mediocre at the corners. But even my 21mm Zuikos showing quite CA at the corners...

Go better for a Sigma 12-24. That's the only AF lens I really want, and it makes sense with the 5D if you like to shoot architecture often. Best value for the money. The distortion is low like Flek 20/4 or Distagon 18/4 and the corner performance is better that any manual wideangle I've tried before, if you use it only at F11 and F16. Some people had to send back the Sigma twice until they got a good copy, but it's still a very recommendable acquisition IMHO.

Thanks Martin. I am very happy with my 4/20 Flektogons. I got the Mir-47 only because I am madly in love with the Russian lenses - including their shortcomings.
As for AF lenses, I have the Sigma 10-20, I am keeping it only because it's the only lens in my roster that allows me to obtain true wideangle on the 400D. It is very sharp but needs to be stopped down to at least f/8 to avoid soft corners, and of course color and distortion are nowhere near the performance of the Flektogon (but that is true of all Sigma lenses that I have tried, not only the 10-20 - I hate the washed out colors of the Sigma lenses)

They should still be usable. The lever holds the iris open, so the only problem is they will be like stop-down lenses without full-aperture metering.

Well, the 47-N has arrived.
Broken.
The iris is stuck at f/22
The seller advertised it as "in optimal condition"

A negative perhaps.
Well, if he doesn't refund in full, he will get it.

It's a pity, because apart from that, the lens looks good. A couple marks on the coating though. But I photographed at f/22 and they don't show.
The barrel looks perfect, like new, it has the box and the filters.
Too bad.

What about ask him for partial refund? Keep lens and from partial refund pay the fixing cost. Even better send to him back for fixing ? One times happened with me a CZJ FLEKTOGON 50mm f/4 lens it worked fine before I always test in the last minute, before I send out the lens and aperture didn't work at all. I was lucky because I didn't sent to the buyer. After lens fixed by a service man I able to send to him a freshly renewed lens.

So far he hasn't replied yet...

Who is the seller?

PostPosted: Thu Mar 29, 2007 7:24 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

He has replied. No problem, he offers a full refund but I have to pay for the shipment back.
The seller is an ukrainian guy who lives near Rome. Not the one I usually buy from, another one. It was the first time I bought from him.
In a way I am sorry to see the lens go. If I knew a good service man who costed little, I would have chosen to repair. But such a repair would cost me at least 50 Eur, so there is no point, better send the lens back. I will photograph it first, so if you want, you can add it to your web site.

Please put pictures to ftp site and one from the lens itself thank you!
