"Pretty nice" is an understatement. It's actually an excellent lens. I don't think that you will find really better lenses in terms of optical quality.

You may also watch my thread about the same lens here:

BTW, nice pictures indeed.

Took a while to find the lightest version of this lens, recognisable by its tapered aperture ring.
Got it for cheap with free dirt and fungus !
So after a good clean and after the smell cleared, I took it for a spin on our usual short walk....

I just kept shooting all over, a great lens, small and light with good colours it does what you want it to do.
One of them lenses easy to handle, with great result.......

I do have a Contax 2.8/180 and a Series 1 3/200, but this one is much lighter and would fit well in an already heavy bag.

Can't wait try the MD 2.8/200 ....

Hopefully you won't be disappointed. The overall consensus among Minolta lens enthusiasts is that your version of the 200/4 lens is the better one.
Therefore for the practical use this 200/4 version is the better option.
The AF 200/2.8 APO is definitely the best option. Wink

Apart from improved coatings, how does the MC 4.5/200 compare to this lens?

It's a little bit weaker. Especially wide open in the corners.

You can check that on Stephan's comparison of the different 200mm Minolta lenses here:

Not exactly....
I have an arrangement with a Minolta collector whom agreed to sell his MD 2.8/200 to me.... Eventually...

In the mean time, I bought a bunch of Minolta stuff from him...
