Orio, between you and bigmango, you guys are killing me! Laughing Another
great set and #2 and #4 are my faves. Are all the houses made of stone
and brick because the big bad wolf blew down the ones of straw and
wood? Laughing I'm not laughing, really, those buildings will still be there after
I am dust!
OK, I'm a little late, but I like the last one, too!

Bill

41) We split and I went back home. Along the road I stopped the car to take some snaps. This one is a bit blurred because it's taken through the car's front window

Thank you Bigmango. Yes the lens is nothing short of excellent. Sharp wide open, excellent distortion control, great saturation, and mostly that Zeiss fingerprint (the "roundness" or depth perception) that makes the photos so unique.

Unfortunately, all this comes at a price. I paid for this lens 400 Euros something, which was a great price also because there was practically no shipping cost (it came from Milano). I won the auction for just a few Euros, the second bid was only 3-4 euros lower than my top offer!
You should be prepared to spend 600-700 Euros as average for this lens, although every once in a while the good occasion shows up.

I have found two copies currently for sale on Ebay, I will link to them in the Marketplace forum.

This lens is rarer to find than most other Zeiss/Contax lenses. This because it was very expensive originally. It was the last design made by the most famous lens designer in the Zeiss team, and the optical scheme, with an internally floating lens that optimizes focusing for both infinity and closeup, was derived from a movie camera lens that Zeiss designed - and for this reason, the lens is also known as the "Hollywood Distagon".
Another reason of the rarity is that at the same time, Zeiss also had in the catalogue another 28mm lens, the slower 2.8/28 Distagon, which is a very good lens (especially the latest MM models), and was much cheaper than the Hollywood - it is also, however, a completely different lens design, and although it delivers great images, it does not have that "thrill" and "3D-ness" that the 2/28 images give.

Orio, stop it please. I don't want to get involved in this zeiss-thing. But I can't resist much longer... Very Happy

Great results, Orio, thanks for showing and for your "stop".

Thanks, Orio, for both the fine pictures and these interesting information!

I just checked the "Hollywood Distagon" in Kadlubek's:

Distagon T* 2.0/28 - € 629,-
Distagon T* MM 2.0/28 - € 1006,- (!!!)

Distagon T* MM 2.8/28 - € 277,-

Remember, these are average prices for used lenses in (almost) mint condition.

So, you got your copy for € 400,- ? What a great deal!

BTW, I love the old stone houses in your area. Fantastic!
And a bar as a shelter for rain? "Ars Vivendi", I would say! Wink

Thanks for the Kadlubek information!
I suspected it was a great deal since I usually see this lens sold around 600 Euros. Mine is AE version but it's Made in Germany, usually MM versions were made in Japan but I am not sure about this model, because the construction was so complicated, with all those glasses, the highest quality glass needed, and the floating element, that I expect that also the MM version has probably made in Germany.

I am curious about the other high value lenses that I have. Could you please give me the Kadlubek information for the Distagon 1.4/35, Planar 1.4/85 and Planar 2/135?

Thanks Carsten. Well of course only few houses are made like these ones. In these photos, we are inside castle villages, and the houses are very old OR renewed according to the old style (as the laws require). In the normal cities, this does not happen (unfortunately).

Yes Very Happy Especially this bar, and the one in the Vigoleno castle where we have also been, because they are built inside old houses and so also inside the bar you have the stone walls, the wooden structures, the solid old wood tables and chairs etc. They feel REALLY cozy and comfortable and quiet, and when there is rain outside, you could easily stay for hours there, drinking good things and talking with friends in a very nice environment - exactly the opposite than the modern city bars - as much as I hate those (and would never stay there for more than the minimum required), I love these old castle bars.

I am very interesting in "3D effects". I will receive a CZ 28/2.8 in next week. Here on my shelf there is one CZ 50/1.7, one Yashica 50/1.4 (You known something about this lens?) so I am afraid to not have chance to use M42 lens more Sad
