Hi, my name is Hubert, I'm from Poland. Sorry for my english Smile I bought old german lens - Trioplan 100/2.8 and I'm very satisfied from this purchase (price - only 149 PLN = ~60 USD). I use it with my Olympus Evolt E-300. My conclusion:
1) pictures taken at F/2.8 aren't blurry, but they have delicate, bright glow. IMHO - very nice effect.

2) at F/3.5 picture is a bit sharper than at F/2.8 and there's no glow

3) at F/5.6 picture is very sharp

IMHO Trioplan is better than my second portrait lens - Tair-11A 135/2.8. Bokeh from Trioplan is beautiful.
What do you think?

Hubert

Hello and welcome to the forums Hubert, I really like the bike shot, it has nice character to it.

I'd say you have a really nice lens there.

Hello Maxim, and welcome to the group!!

Yes, the Trioplan is a magic lens - I was on one one day, but I slept over the end of auction and missed it. I've been chasing one since them, but always seem to miss it. But sooner or later I'll grab one!

Your photo of the bicicle is just lovely!

Trioplan vs Tair 11A in my opinion their different character for some areas perhaps Trioplan more useful , but Tair 11A is better lens from every aspects, sharper, better color rendering etc.

Thanks for very nice welcome. In Poland is 00.30, so I'm very sleepy... good night Smile

Attila - in fact, my Tair is sharper than Trioplan at F/2.8 (and he doesn't produce "glow"), but at F/5.6 Trioplan is better. Quality of russian lenses is very different - you might buy very good or very poor Tair, Jupiter etc Smile

Meyer Trioplan has two variant this one
http://www.mflenses.com/gallery/v/german/meyer/trioplan_100mm_f2_8/
and Trioplan N Exakta
http://www.mflenses.com/gallery/v/german/meyer/trioplan_100mm_f2_8_exa/

They are completely different characters as you can see on above links.

This is Tair-11A 135mm f2.8 also a different character.

Finally this is Tair 11 133mm 2.8 a lovely old lens.

Welcome Hubert!,

Wow, those nice colours and bokeh... It's kinda special...
I see many people here having an Oly E-300 and getting nice results with the old lenses...
Maybe is time to look for one Wink

Best regards,
Jes.

Attila - thanks for links, but I had seen these pages before Smile I agree Trioplan and Tair are different and each one is good in other aspects. Two different lenses, two different characters Very Happy
I have older (but probably more popular) version of Trioplan... I know that Trioplan was produced from 1938 till 196X and I'm interesting when mine was made (S/N 2588631).
I think that modern lenses (mostly) producing more neutral photos. Of course they are more universal, but I love old lenses with specific bokeh, glow etc.
Orio - I hope, You'll grab Trioplan soon!
Jesito - I see that U have very interestings lenses too . My friend also use 350D with old lenses (like You) and the results are interesting!

Pictures taken in friday (good weather, sunny) and saturday (bad weather, cloudy and foggy) at F/2.8; converted from RAW:

In second photo contrast and saturation was decreased intentionally Smile Greetings from Poland!

#2 is fantastic !! So unreal, mysterious, mystical... those bokeh looks like from a foreign planet sky...

PostPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2007 10:34 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Absolutely agree every old lens a character, not neutral personality less than modern ones...

This lens is quiet common on Ebay you will find pretty soon if you want it, but many of them so dusty inside. If you not find and still want it let me know I will find you locally or on Ebay.

Attila, yes, I'm very much interested in this lens! US ebay has all Exakta
mounts of this focal length, and since there's no adapter for Exakta to
4/3 Oly, I can't use these. Maxim is also an Oly e300 shooter, so his
must be an M42 model, lucky find...

It has an almost mystical quality about it. Certainly a departure from
most other lenses. My Balda Baldax has the Trioplan, too, got to shoot
a roll through it!

Katastrofo - that's right, I have M42 Trioplan - I use it with my E-300 and M42-4/3 adapter. In Poland these lenses are very rare. I saw 2 Trioplans at Allegro.pl (something like ebay): "my" for 149 PLN; 1 PLN = 3.63 € or 2.52 USD <--- sorry, my mistake... of course 1 USD = 2.52 PLN;1 € = 3.63 PLN) and other for 180 PLN. I'm lucky - my Trioplan is in very good condition, free from dust, fungus or scratches Smile
I hope, you'll grab good Trioplan soon! Best regards

Bil, this is M42

http://www.vatera.hu/trioplan_meyer_gorlitz_100_2_8_as_m42_es_portreobi_40396400.html
Bid start from 57 USD ,buy it now price 85 USD.

2 days left 0 bid. I expect to get around 60 USD. I know the seller item will be dirty and haze or dust inside, but not sure. Should I take it for you ?
Shipping cost is 20 USD to USA.

I remember for the other one in a local shop price around also 50 USD, today I could check it if you want.

It's a shame the M42-Nikon adapters work so badly, otherwise I'd be very tempted.
