Do any of you know anything about the Mepro 11/750 mirror lens? I have done searches and find nothing except a couple of them for sale at the $600 range. I have found a company named Mepro that produces refractive scopes for rifles and presume they are the same company. However, I find it odd that no one has ever posted here about the lens or anywhere else on the net. _________________ Regards,

Quite remarkable, isn't it? - that no one here has any knowledge or experience with that lens? How has it escaped attention? I'm wondering if it is worth a try if cheap enough. _________________ Regards,

Well you can tell how much they are woth as Gokevin has one listed for 650USD

so probably a 200 dollar item. In a general bay search I found some other older Mepro optics. Several of them look to be Tomioka manufacture. eg:

With so few for sale (and I think the same one shows up in multiple sales), it is difficult to assess the real value and real value might be an indication of quality. I see no sale information.
It is interesting that you see a possible connection to Tomioka. The Mepro mirror has the fake leather covering similar to the lens you provided a link to. I was also interested in trying a Yashica ML 8/500500 and wondered if Tomioka might have made them. _________________ Regards,

I had a focal 135mm 2.8 made by tomioka. It was decent but not stellar. Since their lenses Can sometimes be way stellar, but not always, Tomioka must have manufactured to quality level set by rebranding purchaser. Hanimex was a rebrander as well but they would buy from ANYONE. Most of there stuff is crap, but not all of it.
There are lots of things out in the world that have not made it to the internet.
I have a lovely Bell and Howell labelled 28mm 2.8. That I can't find ANY info on. It is mounted in the FD mount that B & H shared with Canon but I don't think its a Canon lens. I have searched e-bay and internets and see nothing quite like it. When I get some time I will take some pictures of it and with it. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

I have the same reaction to Hanimex, or at least I did. I had a 28 / 2.8 Hanimex that despite being in mint condition was without any doubt the worst lens I've ever had. I gave it away as a body cap when I sold a crappy Praktica for 2. Then I bought a much older pre set Hanimex 180 / 3.5 - which I adore.
Hanimex was another rebrander who made nothing, and like most rebranders sometimes they got lucky. I would suspect Mepro are also rebranders, so it's going to be a lottery. _________________ LENSES & CAMERAS FOR SALE.....

Meprolight is not the same company. I did find that Nitto made "9 lenses from 28mm to 400mm" including a "55/2.8 MEPRO KOMINAR". Preset aperture for Meprozenit import cameras. That 135mm is also in M42. Apparently Mepro also produced 500mm and 750mm F8 mirror lenses.

My guess is that it's probably rubbish, and Nitto that I mentioned may still not even be related... Found a dead Ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mepro-Auto-3X-Converter-Lens-Made-in-Japan-W-Manual-Free-Shipping-/301858276414?_ul=BR&nma=true&si=Ahw9ItOaN5M4GBvr44QbkZ7X%252FnY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Mepro was referenced in this thread, could they be German? http://forum.mflenses.com/rubica-300-5-6-what-the-heck-is-that-t6798.html
I found a few other links to Mepro lenses in M42 or T-mount on Google, but the pages/content are not there. |
