I have a few USSR rangefinder lenses which have lost their brilliance. So I decided to test oil based diamond polishing on one of my worst lenses and I manage to get rid of most of the smaller scratches and "oxidation"/ yellowish muck on the barrel.

Sorry, I have no before and after, but I took a picture of his SLR brother together. The m39 I-22 to the left was worse than the I-22 to the right. I am quite pleased with the results.

I started of with 40 micron oil based paste and then 7 micron. And 1 micron in the end for higher gloss.

Very nice results! I would leave more expensive lenses alone though. In the future the value of the lens could well depend upon its originality. Wristwatches are a good example, an original watch with patina is worth several times more than a refurbished watch of the same vintage.

Thank you! Most of the chrome brass lenses still have very nice finish, like old Serenars or Nikkors, but I got tierd of the yellow dirty scratched looking alu made communist lenses Wink

But I agree, some lenses should not be touched.
