Thanks! I was quite pleased. The ability to nail focus with magnification WITH focus peaking has greatly improved my ability to nail the focus. My keeper rate went up dramatically when I moved up from the Canon 60D.

That's a great lens, it's only fault is that it is big and heavy, so I don't carry it very often. But the quality of it is superb.

This one is especially problematic as it is the bellows mount version so its small but to use it you need even additional kit. This was via a7ii-fotodiox canoneos adapter, eos bellows then eos to minolta adapter then the lens!

Ah, that one. It's still a Rokkor, it has to be good. Wink

I have the MD Rokkor 100mm F4 macro, and it is superb. And it's not nearly as heavy as the MC.(it weighs about 2/3 as much)
See here:

The MD 4/100mm is very sharp over the entire field and even in the extreme corners. It's nearly free of CAs.

These short teles have similar or even slightly better detail resolution:
Minolta MD 2/85mm
Minolta AF 2.8/100mm Macro
Minolta AF 2/100mm
Minolta AF 1.4/85mm
Sony Zeiss AL 1.4/85mm
Sony AL 2.8/85mm

All others are softer and/or have more CAs:
Canon FD 1.8/85mm
Canon nFD 1.8/85mm
Minolta Auto Rokkor 3.5/100mm (NOT the Macro!)
Minolta MC 1.7/85mm
Minolta MD 1.7/85mm
Minolta MC 3.5/100mm Macro
Nikkor Ai 1.8/85mm
Nikkor Ai 1.8/105mm

I picked up the Minolta MD 85mm F2 a few years back, here in Japan.... It cost the equivalent of around $15 USD !!!!

Superb, sharpness seems to be a little better than the MD 100mm F4 macro

Certainly a good deal Wink

Which camera did you use to compare the MD 4/100mm Macro and the MD 2/85mm? I really couldn't see much difference using 24MP full frame ... but using 24 MP APS-C or 36 MP / 42 MP FF things may be slightly different ...

Also at which aperture and distance 85 tops 100?

Right - i forgot to clearly state that the tests were made at "infinity" (about 2 km between camera and subject). Of course the macro lenses will outperform th "not macros" at closer disances. And i was talking just about resolution. Testing / comparing bokeh, colors, distortion, vignetting and the like would be nice as well.

I have an A7 (amongst others).

I suppose I'm comparing the sharpness of the 85mm at F2 as similar to the sharpness of the 100mm macro at F4. I use the 85mm mostly at F2, so I guess it's more by implication that the 85mm at F4 is sharper than the 100mm macro at F4, than actual evidence!!! So that means I should do a test comparison,a nd post it!!! Wink
