Forgive the subject matter, but our magnolia has just produced its first ever flowers, and a yellow faced honey-eater has built a nest by our front door.
OK the bees didn't hang about for the picture but the bird stayed.
Here ya go

Thanks Calvin and JJB.
This is a seriously good lens and one that I hummed and harrred about for months because of its strange zoom range and slow maximum aperture (4.5)
Saw this one very cheap and decided to try it out.
The ULD glass certainly makes a difference and the colour and definition are pure Mamiya - very chuffed am I.

Splendid shots. Very clear and vivid. Seems good for birds and macro. _________________ ---------------------------------

Thank you Pancolart.
I took these images to help build up a small profile for this lens.
There is almost nothing about it on the web that I can find and it is often available cheaply.
Here are some extra images.
Most of these and the previous are taken at full aperture.

This particular bird has built a nest near our front door so doesn't go too far.
It is easy to get close to birds if you set up a bird bath or bird feeder in your yard and position the camera nearby with something to screen yourself and the camera.
I took the last picture out our sunroom window.
Thank you for the compliment.
There is awesome detail in all of the flower pictures as well but that is easily missed. The bird shows it more easily.
Here are two of the flower shots cropped:

I was mistaken about the bird.
It is a white eared honey eater
http://www.birdsinbackyards.net/species/Lichenostomus-leucotis
and probably in its first breeding season as it hasn't fully coloured up as yet.
We are so lucky to have many splendid birds here.
Thanks

Finally, a picture of the lens itself.
Even though it is a lens designed for Mamiya 645, it is still around the same size as a Vivitar zoom of similar range and vintage.

Thanks Lloyd.
Yes, you are right.
It surprised me too when I first used it.
It is sharp from wide open which is also unexpected. That last shot was taken at f3.5

I just have checked the earlier and much larger "non-ULD" version of the Mamiya Sekor C 4.5/105-210mm, comparing it with the Canon nFD 4/80-200mm L at f=105mm and at f=200 (210)mm on 24 MP FF. Even the the "non-ULD" is as good if not better than then Canon L glass, both regarding resolution as well as lateral CAs (virtually non-extistent at f=210mm).
I'm pretty sure the "non-ULD" version of the Sekor C 4.5/105-210mm has ULD glass as well - as it must be the case with the Sekor C 5.6/300mm: The 5.6/300mm "non-ULD" and the later "ULD" version have exactly the same optical properties (i. e. lack of lateral CAs).
