I'm new to this MF lens world, and partly thanks to this site I'm a proud owner of two Takumars. I find MF lenses to be a perfect addition to AF lenses, they simply delivers something special and ease of use and at a fraction of the price.

Anyway, the conclusion is that a macro and a fish-eye lens might work best for me if they were MF's, so my question is if you can recommend any good such lenses? Which ones gives best value for money? And good advice on choosing a MF macro lens, and what should such lenses cost?

Welcome !

I vote for Zenitar 16mm M42 as fish eye lens for your camera.
Macro Tamron SP 90mm f2.5 with M42 mount definetly or any Takumar macro.

Why stop using a winning concept? Get a Takumar macro Very Happy.

Both the Zenitar and Peleng are great Fisheyes.
The Zenitar is 16mm. On crop DSLR it gives about 21mm.
The Peleng is an 8mm lens which gives a true fish eye picture it looks great on a crop DSLR.
Both these lenses are available in M42 mount so will fit your Minolta with a Minolta AF to M42 adaptor.
The only problem with these lens is you will probably have to buy them new as few are ever sold S/H – everybody keeps them.
Why not try the Zenitar for macro? I use it with close up lenses. You can’t use an extension tube as it would go too close.
To fit filters and macro lenses to the Zenitar requires a 60mm filter ring I have a 60 -62 step up ring.

For price info look on eBay.

I would love a Tamron or Takumar but i know the Takumars tends to end a bit high, or am I being unrealistic on prices on macro lenses? How much does a Tamron usually go for, and can it easily be converted to M42 (or Minolta AF)?

As for the Zenitar, I have done some research on it since that one seemed the best value, but to be honest I haven't really found an alternative so was wandering if there was some good alternative or is it just _the_ fish-eye?

yeah, fish-eye as macro would certainly give some very creative macro shots with a very special perspective, but then I would have to deep freeze all the insects I want to shoot since I have to get really close with the lens Smile

Are you serious ? Compare this quality lens price with any other crappy plastic lens price.

Tamron adaptall lenses are no problem on Minolta AF.
You fit them with the Tamron M42 mount and MAF - M42 adaptor.
I had both the Minolta 5D and Sony Alpha and used Tamrons.
Lots of choice with Tamron see the post about zoom lenses.
I don't think there is an alternative to the Zenitar. I am waiting for a Sigma 10-20 but I will still keep, use and want my Zenitar.
See my Zenitar Train pics in the Gallery.

The Cosina "plastic fantastic" should actually be a good perfomer Very Happy But no, I don't know why I expected them to be much cheaper? The other lenses I got was a lot cheaper than AF equivalent.

If you could use Nikon mount:

Micro-Nikkor 2.8/55mm is an excellent lens. That I have seen go fro $50-$100 (US)

The hunt has begun for a Tamron SP or maybe a Takumar 50/100 depending on condition and such Smile I haven't found a Nikkor->Minolta adapter so will rule that on out for now. I also found a Yashinon 60mm macro that looks really appealing, have any of you experience with that lens? As for the fish-eye I think it will have to wait a couple of months and get a Zenitar then, macro is more important for me this time a year.

Thanks a lot for all your help, really appreciate it! Don't think I would have gone for a Tamron SP macro if it wasn't for you Smile

you could try a reversing ring and maybe try see if some of the lenses you already have are any good Wink.

Check out this site and see how Mark Dijstelberge shoots, there are some very beautiful shots in my opinion http://iloblog.mdsign.nl/blog?Home

Good luck.
You wont get a Nikon lens onto a Minolta AF mount and keep infinity focus.
I'm pretty sure you can only use M42 lenses, which includes Tam Adaptalls via the M42 tam mount adaptall mount. Nothing else will fit.
The Takumar 50mm is well worth getting the f1.7 50mm is a bargain as is the older f1.8 55mm and f2 lens. These lenses are also great for macro when used with tubes and even better when reversed for getting real close

Wierd, works for me, seems to be the exact link. Try googling " Mark Dijstelberge photography " and it should be the first hit.

I would have thought so since the register of F mount is lager than the A mount according to this page, but I have googled a lot for such an adapter and found nothing Sad
