I'm looking for Contax or Yashica bodies (cheap, Contax RTS or Yashica FX-3 and the like). I'd appreciate any suggestions on which camera I should get as well. It would be just for ocassional use, manual and aperture priority metering will do. Thanks _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

I have a Yashica FX-3 silver finish that is perfectly working and looks also very good (at least to me). Since I got a RX I will likely never use it anymore. The times are perfect (to my eye of course, I don't have a scientific instrument) and the exposimeter works well (cross checked with my Gossen meter), but of course if you don't use a correct silver battery replacement, you might get different values. I used correct batteries that I bought from the USA but they are a bit expensive. But there are experts here that can help you with a different battery solution.
If you want it, I can give it to you for 50 Euros + shipping+paypal fees if you use Paypal. If you use bank transfer I will not charge you the Paypal fees. _________________ _

Thanks Orio. I didn't know about the battery issue, i'll look into it before deciding maybe there's another solution apart from getting rare batteries from USA, like making a voltage regulator or something. I'm also watching Contax and Yahica bodies on eBay, maybe I'll buy a couple, some come with lenses. _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

I think Jes should have a solution for the battery, try asking him (if he does not reply first) _________________ _

According to the manual http://www.cameramanuals.org/yashica_pdf/yashica_fx-3_fx-7.pdf, the FX-3 takes two bog-standard SR44/LR44 1.55v silver or alkaline cells, cheap and available. _________________

I just found out the FX-3 doesn't have aperture priority auto exposure How about the FX-70, FX-103, FX-107? anything bad about them? The specs seem right to me. _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

Of course no, it's a purely manual camera, such as the Nikon FM2.
Actually this is why I bought it, I like manual cameras But for some fast tasks I agree that AE is very handy.

I don't know them, sorry. Be careful however: some of the automatic Yashica cameras are not C/Y mount anymore (they switched mounts more or less at the same time Canon did). _________________ _

Alright, I'll be careful, thanks for the help!
I found this page about contax and yashica cameras:
http://www.cdegroot.com/cgi-bin/photowiki/Yashica_FX-3
They have the camera specs + photos + user comments _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

That makes sense. I have a PLC2 that takes a large PX21 4.5v battery. I looked at the old battery and it's actually 3 LR50 cells joined together, so it would be easy to build one if you can't find a PX21. But they ARE expensive, you're right! _________________

I just got a FX-70 + yashica ML 1.9/50, yashica ml 50-150 zoom and flash, for $35 the seller looks reliable and this seems like a good deal
Click here to see on Ebay
I hope it's a fine camera. _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

Sorry I read this post late. Not a bad deal you got it for the price of the lens set. The body if seldom used should be good for more service. The fxd, fx70, and fx103 are unfortunately among yashicas least reliable. They function well enough but are made cheaply with tiny plastic parts that fail. If you find this body is not good search for a FR1 or RTS. They are all metal bodies made with quality construction and have AE . For a full manual body the fx3 is pretty reliable although quite lightweight. The FR is of the same ilk as the FR1 and RTS and a better choice. The FR was my first SLR back in 1982 freshman highschool photography class I still have it in near flawless condition and function even after many hundreds of rolls. _________________ Canon: 5D,40D Contax: Aria,RTS,RTS II, RX Leica: CL Voigtlander: Bessa L

No problem, I'll probably buy another body anyway, not only as backup but also because I don't imagine myself shooting film with primes after being used to the convenience of digital, so I'll really need to have a couple of lenses ready and a couple of (maybe different) films ready for shooting for more flexibility. Landscapes don't "run away" but pretty much every other photo does, you have to be quick. Thanks for the advice. _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

I just received the Yashica FX70
I'm going to buy a film and test it with the planar. It came with a Yashica ML 50/1,9 and a 75-150 yashica ML zoom and a yashica flash. I think the zoom has fungus in one lens element :/ both lenses have some dust, which i expected already. The meter seems to work properly and the mirror and shutter seem to work, I have to take some photos to fully test it. I'll post them here (maybe you could move this thread to film cameras?) _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

Hi Naplam, in which area are you located?. Maybe near Barcelona?
I've just received another FX70 Quartz and maybe we could share experiences...
