Do you use a lightning trigger, and if so which model? I've been tempted to get myself one but the reviews on models seem so varied that I'm not sure I what to believe. _________________ Lochlann

Hi Lochlann,
i don't use light-trigger it's too slow.
My camera shoots every 25s. 10s exposure, 10s darkframe, 5s saving.
iso 100 / f8
I tried the trigger of Magic Lantern but the lightning was faster than the trigger. |

Lightning trigger sounded intriguing...apparent, they work (sometimes) http://store.lightningtrigger.com/collection.aspx
Detecting the dawn of the lightning flash is the easy part -- the part of the photography system after the dectector must be fast enough to capture the rest.
I witnessed a strike near enough to see the shaft come down and hit, debris go flying, see the shock wave from the blast move through the landscape toward me, and feel the compression with my whole body as it passed -- somehow, before, my eyes knew exactly where to look, so I know detection should be possible. _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

Hi,
thank you all for liking.
@ l9magen
The intervalometer of Magic Lantern made my camera shooting and if i don't want to miss one,
a second camera exposes while the first is creating the darkframe.
Motiondetection uses, while the shutter is already open,
the lightning as a trigger. It's fast, but you just get an illuminated sky and you need luck.
The next lightning has to be in the exposuretime of 10s to 20s and this never happens here.

Thankyou for the response Tom - seems your intervalometer approach might work.
I'm still in awe of your success. I've gone out a few times and had very little luck, but will try this approach.
