Hi,

this morning I decided to move my daily morning walk into the next zoo.

Weather was perfect for some portrait shots. With me a Canon 1 DsMkIII & Leitz Leica MR-Telyt-R f:8/500mm. All shots at ISO 800 handhelded.

Personally I believe one of the best mirrors on the market.

Here we go

and a last one I found on the way to the parking place

Thanks for viewing and any comments.

Wink

Wow! Excellent sharpness for a mirror lens.
A lot of PP / sharpening?

Many thanks for your comments.

The problem with mirror lenses is indeed the bokeh. Someone love it, someone not. Normally I try to found a monochromic background, perfect is a dark colour like blue or black (as for example with the stork), but sometimes it is not possible.

PP (sharpness/adjustments) not very special. Unfortunately all images lost a lot of their quality due to the reduced web size.

I plan to go to the zoo next week again. Then I will try a 400mm Leica glas lens for better bokeh.

GREAT work. I wouldn't have expected any less from you though, Rolf.

It almost breaks my heart to see the expression on the ape. Is that
an Orangutan? Perhaps I'm anthropomorphizing too much, but the
expression makes me sad. The image though, is just outstanding!

I like the first one.
The background though distracting looks like a peacock's tail.

I like the bokeh as it does not distract from the first picture....lovely all of them. That orangutan expression is priceless, thoughtful.

Lovely shots from the zoo with the mirror lens. Hope to see more.

very impressive indeed! workmanship and sharpness
bokeh maybe distracting on the first peacock shot, on the Orangutan it must be a matter od taste, on the first one IMO it even enhances the image

@Laurance, once in a zoom I had seen an Orangutan, and the 'Humans' ( now I don't say which country this was in..) making fun of him, in really stupid ways, seemed to be the apes, and the Orangutan, bearing it all with sad eyes, so much more 'human'

Best photos I have seen lately. Bokeh is also nice to me.

Can you send a photo of the lens? Is it M39?

Were some of the previous images done at 1000mm? I just joined because I found this thread through an internet search. I also have four Leitz lenses, including the 500mm, adapted for my Canons.

I love your shots! I've looking for some photos taken by mirror lenses becouse i've bought a Zeiss Mirotar 8/500 and wait for UPS at my house door to test it on my Canon 5D Mk II . I'll post the shots with Mirotar.
Had good light!
