Sometime in the not too distant future I want to get an Leica Elmarit lens for my EOS cameras.

I see the Leicas as having 2 or 3 cams. Does this make a difference when using a Leica>EOS adapter?

Thanks

Jules

Sorry,I don'tm know, but it can be differents opticals shames between 2 and 3 cam. May be the elmarit 35 F/2,8 one of this case.

The answer is No. The cams are to control systems between the R lenses and R cameras. If you will only use it on the Canon with adapters it does not matter how many cams. Similar to AIS AI on nikon or AE MM on Contax. It only matters for those cameras.

I thought that might be it.

Thanks much

The number of Cams per se has no inflluence on the usability of a leica-R lens on a Canon or Sigma SD14 camera . However it is a good indicator of the age of the lens and that does have relevance since all adaptors are manufactured based on the CURRENT LEICA R MOUNT , so some older lenses might not mount since the mount has changed slightly trough the years.

I think that it is safe to say that 2 and 3 cam lenses should mount , but NO Cam lenses would not , since they are meant for the Leicaflex not the Leica-R.

Thanks for your response Luis,

Yes I am looking at Leica-R lenses not Leicaflex or RF lenses. I see Orios work with the Elmarit and am very jealous!! Wink

Cheers

No problem Jules , your feeling are justified. Leica lenses are very consistent in the quality of their manufacture and last a long time without problems of Lens element separation , fungus or otherwise. Zeiss lenses also have high optical standards but their barrels and all mechanical aspects are left to their clients, and therefore vary depending who that client is. Contax lenses are known to suffer problems of Aperture Diaphragms sticking and therefore being out of roundness and of course Exposure will suffer and become inconsistent.

Convert your camera to Leica-R if possible and you will not regret it.

You will surely not regret getting a Leica lens. I love my Elmarit 35.

@Luis: Wow A Sigma SD with a Foveon chip as a "Leica cam" - what a great idea!

I have been keeping my eyes on the Leicas too, especially the Elmarit 35 & 90. Like you, after looking/reading Orio's and Carsten posts too. Thanks for this information. I almost bought the Leicaflex version, phewww!

FYI - I noticed in the US eBay, there is a seller (username:dallas something?) buying up the listed Leicas from individual eBay sellers and reselling them with better pictures and description, albeit getting a higher end price/profit to probably collectors (as oppose to users like us). I have been outbid at the last few seconds by him/her a number of times. I am not saying this is wrong or anything, just that it pisses me off every time when I am outbidded by 'businessmen' like this individual and looking at the same item/serial number listed under his/her name on a later date. On the other hand, I am happy, when I know I am outbidded by someone here or the other forums.

So the moral is, buy local, estate sales or from forum members if you can, otherwise, be prepared to pay premium to outbid businessmen like dallas???.

All the best to you.
