Most probably this one: https://goo.gl/AVi5bU
As it's called "early" and this is the first version.
IMHO the old Elmarit has the better price/quality relationship and it's not as huge and heavy: https://goo.gl/Xq931w
At least I prefer it over the old Summicron and wouldn't change. _________________ Thomas Bernardy

There are 4 versions of the M 90 Cron, I believe the first two are the ones referred to.

I just found out they made a preset version.

Are there any significant performance differences? Is there a version that's most desirable...as well as maybe a version that's least desirable for a significant reason? I know subjectivity always comes into play, but as I say 'significant' as sometimes there are obvious reasons the majority of people avoid or prefer something. _________________ David

or Leica in general?
Most Leica lenses in general are good performers, though some are stellar and others are average, it usually doesn't take more than a few minutes of searching to get a consensus on a particular lenses strengths or weaknesses, _________________ A Manual Focus Junky...

Generally speaking the newer, the better, but also the most expensive ones. The present Summicron 90/2 is apprx. EUR/USD 4.000.- new. The present Apo-Summicron M 50/2 ASPH is most probably the best lens on earth, but also awful expensive.
When talking about the old ones, the old Summicron built from 1958 to 1980 is worse than the Elmarit 90/2.8 built from 1959 to 1974 when compared at same apertures.
That was for me reason enough to go for the Elmarit instead, besides that the Summicron is a really heavy beast which I don't really want to carry around when hiking.
I can't afford the new but I really like the old ones. These lenses are still very nice performers, even for todays standards and still available at a good price/quality relationship when bought used. _________________ Thomas Bernardy
