I have its Minolta 'twin' I believe Minolta actually made them?

Doug.

Hi Doug,

Yes, Minolta built them under licence - compare the current Leica/Panasonic partnership. As Leica makes clear, now, and then - the cameras were built to Leica spec, under Leica supervision and tolerances. Obviously using Minolta expertise in the compact camera area.

There is a dichotomy re. the lens. Some claim that the lens in the Leica was completely different from the Minolta, an actual Leica lens ; others that it was a Minolta built lens with Leica's own coatings/resolution etc., separate from the Minolta version. Leica specs a 38mm lens, Minolta a 40mm, can't see that there is much of a difference as lens measurements tend tae differ with various manufacturers.

Ah've never found conclusive proof either way but a consensus seems tae be that it is a Minolta lens with a separate Leica spec re. coating etc. Whichever, it's still a superb lens.

Boab.

Great shots!

Oddly enough, I just found this exact camera in an old storage building that belonged to my dad. Gonna get a new battery and see if the old girl still has some shots left in her.

Side note, there is still film in it with 3 shots left... I wonder what treasures lie on that film.

Those cams are really not bad at all!

The Leica Mini and the Minolta Freedom Escort are also twins. And while you have pay more than 50,- for the Leica Mini (normally), you can find the Minolta twin for 1 or 2 !!

This was a bargain at 30 on ebay.de. They're going for silly money in the US. Wasn't even looking for this, just stumbled across it.

One thing which struck me is that it just never fails tae autofocus, half press the shutter then full press and it just takes the shot. No hunting, no hassle.

Cool

Very nice results.
B&W number 4 shows just how sharp this lens can be.
Well done
