I was winding down for the evening, settling into my sleeping bag,
in the remote Queets Rain Forest.

The last shard of sunlight was almost horizontal, blinking on
and off through "open spots" as the sun fell into the horizon.

I saw this potential image about 20 meters away from where I
was laying, so I reached over and hauled the tripod and Pentax
645 out of my pack, along with my trusty "Exif tablet and pencil".
Put the whole thing on the shortened tripod and cranked the 150
lens onto the camera. I didn't know if the sun would even
reach the leaves, but I figured it wouldn't hurt anything to have
the camera already aimed that way. Cool

Finally, it lit up the Vine Maple (Acer circanatum) leaves
against the extremely large Western Hemlock (Thuja plicata)
with that typical golden Autumn light.

It may be hard to "get your head around this", but to me
this epitomizes the early evening feeling of gentle quietness in
this great climax forest, and so I like the simplistic, almost
graphical nature of the image. The leaves were probably lit for
no more than 10 seconds (!).

This was an evening where all I could hear, beyond the
pure silence, was the whisper of the wind blowing against the
top of the forest canopy 80 meters above me, and the distant
occasional bugling of male Roosevelt Elk.

Your writing on this one is like poetry and the photo a perfect illustration of it. You are a true artist, Laurence!

Graham, where do you get these emoticons? Laughing

Beautiful capture, the narrative and title are synergistic to the piece.
Love the sunlit greens!

You guys are crazy! But then again...who ISN'T nuts on here? Laughing

THANK YOU for the NICE feedback! This brings to mind that you folks also like the beauty of the rain forests, and I feel close to each of you, as though you visited the place with me.

Actually, YOU GUYS are the inspiration for me. I'm no real artist, I'm just a guy shooting in an area that lends itself to beauty. All I have to do is point a camera. Wink

Thanks again.

That is makes me really sad or angry I saw in my life a couple of people as very talented photographer, painter etc. None of them was a "star" and I saw many untalented , nasty people who are "star" artists. This world has serious trouble on justice what is valuable and what is not. For example we all try to save old photographic equipments and we never got any single lines from any makers "yeah" guys you are doing something good.

But you point it to the right place at the right time too. You've managed to take us there for those 10 seconds.

This is a great photo Larry.
I think I already saw it - or is it just my imagination?

THANK YOU, all of you! I read all your comments and learn from them. They are fully appreciated.

Orio - youare correct! Most of the images that I have shown on here already, are "tagged". Somehow I missed putting a tag on this one. Oh well, maybe some of the newer members haven't seen the image.

Thanks as always. Smile
