Like 1 Nice work. Very little difference between those 2 to my eyes. I have a couple of copies of the Konica. Nice lens. The last one I got was an "as is" BIN from KEH. It was 14 USD and 7 shippping. Turned out to be near mint. I've had pretty good luck with the KEH "as is" most have been in fine shape. One had a filter ring ding which I hammered out with the the chopstick method. It barely shows that it was ever damaged. I've not had a chance at the Mamiya. Though I do have a 55mm 1.4 which is also a very nice lens.

Yep very little different, but I vote for Sekor CS 50/1.7

Great post, the sekor has creamier bokeh..but just by a little..i'm a konica guy myself though, and can spot that konica color/contrast ,haven't seen it topped yet.

That konica hex 50mm 1.7 is definitely one of the best 50's made.Great soft portrait lens wide open razor sharp stopped down with that crisp super color. Whoo Turtle

The Hexanon is visibly more glowy than Sekor. I'd vote for the Sekor.

Hoy did you adapt the Mamiya lens to your Canon DSLR? I'm still looking for a Mamiya => Sony E adapter ...

The Sekor is clearly a fine lens from these images - as is the Minolta.
The Hexanon AR is also good, but doesn't deserve the oft repeated " sharpest 50mm lens..." label so often attributed to it in my opinion.
I have had it and used it with other 50mm lenses, and found it to be good, just like they were, but no better - and in many cases not as good.
I think I would describe its effect as underwhelming given the hype that I had read. Another Mamiya Sekor - the 1.8/55 in M42 mount was clearly better in my case.
In any case I sold it and I'm sure it is giving good service somewhere.
I certainly don't miss it at all.

Isn't it the 57mm Hexanon the one with the sharpness reputation rather than the 50mm?

I absolutely agree on that.

No, it's the Hexanon AR 1.7/50mm:

Looks like I was getting my lenses mixed up, there does not appear to be a 57/1.7! I have a 50/1.7 sitting next to me, it's a shame I do not have a Yashica ML 50/1.7 to test it against, as that's my benchmark for 50/1.7/1.8 sharpness.

This is absolutely true. Given the amount of spherical aberration, CA and missing half-stops (from f/1.7 straight to f/2.Cool... I don't find the 50/1.7 compelling.

The 57/1.4 is said to have a nice bokeh. However, it is only a 6/5 double-gauss. For example RE. Auto-Topcor 58/1.4 is a 7/5 design.

I have only limited experience with the Hexanon 1.4/57mm, but i like it, better than the Auto-Topcor RE 1.4/58mm. The Hexanon is a well balanced construction, especially for portrait work at f1.4.

Even in terms of corner resolution one should not underestimate the classical [6/5] 1.4/57mm and 1.4/58mm lenses! The Minolta MC-II 1.4/58mm (1969) for instance is as sharp as the later [7/5] Minolta MC-X 1.4/50mm. The seventh lens of the 1.4/50mm computations was necessary to keep resolution when increasing the image circle from around 40° to 46°.

The very early f1.4 SLR lenses (e. g. Auto Rokkor 1.4/58mm, Nikkor 1.4/58mm) are worse, however.
