Regarding size and weight it can compare to newer line of 2.8/135 lenses, a bit heavier then Pancolar1.8/50 zebra and a bit bigger then Vivitar 2.5/28. Smaller then Tamron 2.8/90 AD2. This is rather small lens. I do not know is this information valuable.
At the photo below with Tamron 2.8/90 AD2 - Komura with Uni mount and M42/PK, Tamron - "naked"

Lens was discussed here before: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53934
I've found the results on my Spotmatics very pleasing, but the nearest distance isn't very close (1.4m/ 4.5ft). It's a very short and lightweight lens for a fast 100mm. It's about the size of the early postwar Biotar 75/1.5, which wasn't particular heavy.
Probably the 100/1.8 is an Ernostar design, like most fast telephotos made by Komura. I've just seen a diagram from the 100/2.0 which was made in 1964, some years before, but looks very similar to the 100/1.8 from outline.
All of them seem to be in small S/N range of about 65,xxx-66,xxxx. Probably production was ~ 1,000 or lower. _________________ My flickr Gallery

My Komura 100/1.8 is serial number 68xxx, so there's probably more than 1000 made.
The rear element is really large, but far from the lens mount. I suspect that the Exakta Unidapter mount I have on it for use on my Topcon "constrains" the light somewhat, due to the small "throat" of the Exakta mount. |

My 105/2.0 is in the same range. I don't think the whole range of numbers was filled. _________________ My flickr Gallery

Very interesting. Some might remember I recently purchased an INA 180mm lens that we knew very little about. I looked at another INA which was a 135mm and the seller said "twin KOMURA Sankyo KOHKI JAPAN , produced in the same factory". It has 12 blades to diaphragm if I counted right. Is there anything that might be unique to a Komura build? _________________ Regards,

Attila: I saw from a couple of years ago you had a Komura 135mm. How was that lens? From the samples I've seen, the Komura bokeh looks exceptional. _________________ Regards,

Bokeh is excellent, but the distinguishing feature is the handling of color. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Over 20 diaphragm blades for the 1.8 quoting the seller. _________________ "Plonger les choses dans la lumière, c'est les plonger dans l'infini" Léonard De Vinci

Someone asked the weight -- a hefty 19 ounces.
It takes 62mm filters.
I got mine for $120 in 2004 on eBay. Came with M42 Unidapter mount, had to buy the 135/2.8 to get Exakta Unidapter mount. (That only cost $13.) |
