Today, I tried a few lenses in shutter taken from old folders. There were a small unbranded Rectilinear with a focal length of 100mm and an aperture of US4 (equivalent to f/8 ) mounted on a Kodak Ball Bearing shutter, a Kodak Anastigmat 152mm f/7.7 on a Kodak Ball Bearing shutter, a Zeiss Kodak Anastigmat No.3 f/6.3 on a Compound shutter, a Kodak Anastigmat 170mm f/6.3 on an Ilex Universal shutter and a Rapid Rectilinear of unknown focal length (around 170mm) US4 (f/8 ) on a Kodak Ball Bearing shutter.
The best of the bunch seemed to be the Kodak Anastigmat 152mm f/7.7. So I took it with me to the beach (all pictures only resized, no levels, no curves, no sharpening):

#8
As this lens has no coating, the contrast is rather low. Sharpness is good (all these images were taken around f/8, which is near wide open) and the aberrations are well controlled. I find the rendering quite pleasant.
Cheers!

Time to time , I mount some "hacked lenses" on my dslr : a meniscus from kodak six-20 box, a 6 elements symmetrical 100mm f/6 Lacour-Berthiot Eurygraphe (from stereo camera) , Zeiss Tessar 135mm , Triotar 135mm , Novar 105mm , Apotar 105 mm and ... a T-22 4,5/75 mm Lomo (Lubitel!)
Bests results for portrait : 90mm Kodak meniscus, Triotar 135mm , and T-22 lomo . The mount is composed by helicoidat extension tube, extension tubes with "washers" to adjust the register, or bellows for 105mm and over . And what I get ?
