I have several pentax 67 lenses some of which are remarkably good. has anyone tried these. 0.7x and gain a stop is what I read. So my 165mm 2.8 becomes a 115 1.8? Are the optics good? _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

105 as an example was indistinguishable....booster would move that lens into the 85 class and there is a lot of good and fast there... _________________ A7R4, GFX50R and a bucket of mflenses |

I just took a look on eBay for Kipon and other brands of focal reducers that would work with Pentax 67 lenses on Pentax 67 bodies. I got no hits. Everything listed was for these lenses to be mounted on other cameras. Dang. It would be interesting to see what my 45mm would do with one of these things.
I guess that's typical, though. All the other focal reducers I've paid attention to are for one camera brand's lenses to be fitted to another camera. _________________ Michael

Focal reducers for 67 lenses are for other (typically FF) bodies, not 67, yes. I.e., 67 image circle is reduced to FF size without ropping, hence the speed increase... _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

They make 67 to Nikon F, 67 to EF, and 67 to NEX IIRC. They are expensive but for some of the P 67 GLASS it might be worth it if the optical element is high enough quality. You would get a unique lens. _________________ photos are moments frozen in time |

A focal reducer reduces not only the focal length (not a big surprise!) but also the image circle! Therefore, if the original lens barely covers the 6x7 format, the same lens with a focal reducer does not! Nonetheless, a focal reducer designed for use with 6x7 lenses should cover the 35mm format ("full-frame"). _________________ If raindrops were perfect lenses, the rainbow did not exist. |

Yeah, ok, I get it. That's probably one reason why it's called a focal *reducer* after all.
I recently bought a 400mm f/4 for my P67. Wouldn't mind shooting with that on my NEX 7. At 0.7, that'd make it a 280mm f/2.8. Rather interesting, that. _________________ Michael

I work a lot with that Kipon 0.7x medium format to fullframe speedbooster.
Sometimes with lenses which are sold as fullframe lenses, some fast medium format ones Canon FD 300mm/2.8, 400mmf/2.8, Trioplan/Diaplan/Pentacon projection lenses 100mm f/2.8, Rubinar 500mm f/5.6, Wollensak (likely copy of Aero Ektar) 6" f/2.5, Pentacon projection 150mm f/2.8, Berolina (Vivitar) 135mm f/1.5...
The Pentax 165mm f/2.8 lens speedboosted to a 116mm f/2 would not be such interesstign for me.

So you don't get black borders and image still covers full frame despite lens not made for medium format? _________________ ---------------------------------

So these are taken with the Kipon 0.7x medium format to fullframe speedbooster, right? Since those lenses don't have a medium format mount but the FD mount, you can't do this with unmodified equipment, either the mount of the speedbooster or that of the lens must have been modified (or both of course). You used to have a DIY version of such a speedbooster, do you prefer the results of the Kipon? |
