My Kiev-88 has a light leak problem. With one cassette, it's ever present. With another, some frames have it much, some little, some are perfectly good.
The shape of the light leak is curious, it's shaped like a radiator:

The above is from the cassette that showed the problem in all frames.
Here's instead samples from the cassette that showed non-homogeneous and impredictable problem:

NO PROBLEM:

LITTLE PROBLEM:

PARTIAL PROBLEM:

FULL PROBLEM:

Any idea if this may be caused by something in the body, or by malfunctioning film cassettes?
I need to fix this problem, because otherwise the camera works beautifully, times are perfect,
frame spacing is perfectly even, and the lenses offer magnificent performance!

The most common cause of light leaks are from the dark slide slot. If you take off the plate of the film back and replace the foam underneath the little aluminum flap (there are two small oval pieces) that usually that rectifies the issue. Also, which type of back do you have? The old or the new? The new is a little more prone to leaks because it's hinged.

Thanks for the useful info. I think they are of the old type, at least they fit the old type loading description that can be found at the Kievaholics site.
I am impressed by the quality of the camera, so much more reliable with regards to frame advance and shutter times than the Pentacon 6.
It is a mystery why this camera is not popular at all. Probably because it can not mount Zeiss lenses. But the Soviet lenses that I have for it (Volna-3, Mir-26B, Kaleinar-3), have absolutely nothing less
than the Jena equivalents for the P6.

I used the system for a few years. Actually I used several different bodies. Ultimately I never used the interchangeable backs so that feature was lost on me. I built up quite a big system for it though and you're absolutely right, the lenses are great. I think I had almost all of them aside from the super telephotos. If you can, seek out the Vega 120mm. Great great lens!

Actually, what year were your film backs made?
