I was wondering if any of you guys are using this camera. Got it pretty
cheap with 2 batteries and a 512MB CF card.

Bargain of the year! Congratulation! Viewfinder pretty dark almost unusable for manual focusing. Back LCD also not a good one. I found this weakness anything else is very good. I guess with a split screen you can solve the focusing problem and you will be a very happy camera owner. Congratulation again for this great deal!

The good thing for me (wildlife) is that it had a cropfactor of 2X.

If you need it for wideangle ...

Good thing is "four thirds" this is becoming a new M42 I gues.

Well, looking at Attila's chart, Olympus has the shortest register distance
of all digitals.

I've heard from the seller and he shipped yesterday and assures I will
receive it Friday, latest. Smile

Olympus digital reflex cams are only available in 1:2 crop factor, or there are also wider formats?

From what I can tell, they only produce cams with 4/3rds format, which
precludes anything wider.

They make only 4/3 2x crop factor cameras. Very pleasant 2x crop factor with a normal 50mm lens.

Great news, Olympus E-300 has a good shape to use wide mirror lenses. That impossible with Canon or Nikon , I still think you made the best deal in this year.

Attila,
Another plus for the Olympus: the M42 adapter is a nice thick sturdy
looking affair compared to the Nikon or even Canon adapters. This of
course is due to it's short register distance. There will be little chance
of the adapter warping against the lens mount fascia like an aluminum
Nikon adapter would. Right?

Yes true, we have plenty of space to make right adapter for most of the lenses. 4/3 system is the most adaptable DSLR system.

Ok everything, but guys, don't forget that my Flek 4/20 will become a 40mm lens on a 2x crop camera!
That's quite tight - at least for me. It would not do it for me as first camera. Maybe as a second body to use for telephoto shots. The good thing is that a common 50mm. f/1.4 will become a very fast 100mm lens. But what you lose on the wide side with such a big crop, it has an impact.

You have right Orio, Olympus-E system is not usable at all for old wide angle lenses.

Yes, the Olympus system would make a fantastic second cam.
But I also would not like to shoot with a 2x-crop all the time.
I'm too much into wide-angle photography.

Let me dream:
1. Canon EOS 5D (for most of the M42s)
2. Nikon D200 (for all those great MF Nikkors)
3. Pentax K10D (for the fascinating K-mounts and the M42s)
4. Olympus E-1 or E-500 (for nice tele effects)

Oh well, this would mean about € 6.000,- just for the cams! Shocked

Have a nice dream mate!
Couple of years later we can buy all for nothing, thanks for consumer world! Only the problem perhaps they are not works at all.

Camera arrived today, 2 days early! Came with 3 batteries, charger,
software, manuals. Looks almost brand new! Now if I only had the
adapter so I could take some pictures....

I think it depends on what you like to shoot most.

For teleshooting and especially wildlife, this camera will do wonders for you.

I mean, imagine the quality of the Meyer/Pentacon 200mm f4 with that 2x crop factor Smile That's a very decent telelens then!

I have a 200/2.8 Vivitar I'll be trying soon that I got for $15, delivered.
Yeah, this won't be for landscapes but I have medium format film if
I want to shoot those. Wink So far, I'm very pleased with it's performance!

Can you take a picture from this lens to me ? I never seen vivitar with 200mm focal length and f/2.8.

PostPosted: Fri Apr 20, 2007 4:44 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Attila, it's a 200/3.5 lens, not 2.8, my bad. If you still want a pic, LMK.

OK, naturally I'm crestfallen, but being shallow and superficial really
helps to get over little disappointments like this! Laughing

Bill

ps does the 200/3.5 suck, is that it? I'm asking cuz I haven't tried it yet.
