This sounds like the grub screws fixating the focusing grip/ring to the helicoid has come loose. Tightening the screws is usually easily done, once you have access to them. These are the same screws that are purposely loosened to adjust infinity focus (if you look for a description/ how to for your particular lens). The lenses I've fixed this issue with all had their screws accessed from the front, sometimbes directly behind the name ring.

Hi,

When bought this lens the focus ring was flimsy but working (3cm of play !). The focus ring is attached to an internal helicoid by two small headless screws (near 3.5 and infinity marks). Align the ring and tighten both screws. You may have to repeat this operation to get infinity mark properly aligned (if wasn't at infinity or minimal distance when the focus ring "broke").

Hope it helps.
