Very good performance. I don't think the Canon 40D quite rivals the high ISO performance of the Sony A700 or Nikon D300 (and I've seen nothing near the Nikon D3), but it certainly beats my Nikon D200 for lack of noise.

It's clear that Canon's reputation for high ISO performace is well deserved. Laughing

I have 3200 ISO ("Hi") on my D40 and well, lets say its more of a special effect than a useable setting.

Canon has long been working on the noise improvement and some of the results are starting to come through. I agree with Richard about the D200, but I have not yet driven my 40D that high - looking forward to trying it out.

On the 40D the 3200 Iso is also called "Hi"
I had to unlock it to be able to use it
Photography need light and even 64000 iso can't give nice colors in darkness
High iso is a "special effect" but I had great fun to make 300 shots in the dark
