This is the weird looking silver/ alu lens right?

Thank you, yes looks kind of like a ray gun from an old science fiction movie.
It does not focus very close, around 5 ft. The close up photos were done with a macro tube.

The images are better than I expected from this "old" lens. Is the glass free from haze and fungus?

Well, I did increase the contrast with "auto-contrast", but it is free from haze and fungus. The was some
grease or oil on one lens that I had a hard time getting rid of which may show up when shooting towards the sun.
Here is a shot without auto-contrast. When it is sunny I can add some more.

I wish it was a little bit heavier on the bokeh, but at f4 can't expect a lot..however, I really like the warm tones it produces.

+1 Those are my same thoughts. Actually it only opens to 4.5 even. I also wished it focused a little
closer, my Pentacon 2.8/100 gets to 3.5 ft. the Westar only to 5 ft.
